This is how to wire a French plug CEE 7/6 This is a standard French socket CEE 7/5 It is a polarised connection which means you can only insert the plug in one direction The pin sticking out is the earth and the other two holes are for the live and neutral The convention in France if the earth is
at the top, is that the neutral is on the left and the live is on the right the same as a UK socket, but there is no
guarantee that that will be the case and the live and neutral might be swapped
over. Circuit protection in France normally consists of a residual current device (RCD) and also a circuit breaker on each radial The circuit breaker is two pole and
disconnects the live and neutral in the event of a fault This is unlike the UK where often only the live side of the circuit is disconnected in the event of a fault. This is a French plug, in this case it's got a handle and you can see it's got two pins
for the live and neutral and a hole for the earth Lets have a look inside. We have got the cable strain relief and three terminals. The centre one is the Earth and we have a neutral and the live.
Compare that to a UK plug. This is a UK plug. The main difference inside the UK
plug is that it has a fuse which you don't have in a French plug. To wire this up, first look at the side of
the actual plug as it has instructions about the stripping lengths
for the conductors in the cable So we have 30mm of the outside insulation stripped off and then 8mm from each wire. I have the overall insulation stripped off by 30mm and I need to take off 8mm from each conductor. First I need to feed the cable through the body of the connector plug The Earth is in the center and it doesn't really matter which way around you wire the live and the neutral, but convention dictates
