Please explain how to clean piano keytops - piano tuning & repair i howard piano industries

You may have wondered how to clean your piano
keys you may have noticed they get dirt dust   you know things from dirty fingers sometimes
that play the piano and those things build-up   on the piano keys which caused some caused them
to look dirty so piano keys need to be cleaned   occasionally you may not notice it but if you look
closely there may be a lot of dust especially up   here between the sharps, they don't get played
up there as often so more dust will settle up   there so you'll find more dust and dirt and and
stuff built up on your keys so there's a couple   things that you can do to clean your keys
one thing to keep in mind is you don't want   to use anything that's abrasive that's going to
that's going to scratch the surface of the keys   that could damage them some cleaners a lot of
cleaners have abrasives in them so we're going   to show you a couple things that are used in and
work well for cleaning piano keys now one thing   you can do is if they're just a little bit dusty
and not really there's not a lot of stuff built up   on them, you can just take a damp soft cloth here
we've got this is something similar to our quarry   cleaner cloth it's a microfiber cloth it's real
soft and it's made so that it won't scratch the   surface of the keys so you get that if you get
that that a little bit damp now if you do have   real ivories ivory keytops which show we show on
another one of our videos how to determine if you   have real ivory keytops you don't want to get
them real wet because ivory is a porous surface   so if they get if the ivories soak up water they
can actually warp the key top and release the glue   underneath them so so you want to be aware of
that if whatever kind of cleaner you're using   if you have real ivory keytops that you don't
get them real wet just slightly damp whatever   cleaner it is that you're going to use just get it
slightly damp but if you're you know if you've got   a if you're going to clean them sometimes if it's
just light dusting you can just wipe it off   with a clean cloth but if you put to get it slightly
damp that that will pick up the dust better so so   that's the first thing you can do it yeah
but most of the time you're going to have some   kind of a buildup or something a little more
significant so ago I've got a couple cleaners   the first thing we're going to show you here is
this product is a product that we sell in our   online store called Cory ki bright this particular
product is made specifically for piano keytops   you can use it for keyboard computer keyboards too
but mainly it's made for cleaning piano key   tops so what we do with that is we just take
and we spray some of the cleaners you can spray it   directly on the key tops but again you'll remember
the for they're real ivory you don't want to get   them real wet what I like to do is just spray the
cloth and get that cleaner on the cloth   and then you're going to rub and get all the way
up between the sharps and clean the key tops that   way and then make sure you wipe off if there's
any residue or anything you can turn the cloth   over and rub it with the dry side of the cloth so
that's another thing you can do now if you've got   something that's built up on the keytops
that's you know even more stubborn you can   use some you know again again you don't want to
use cleaners with abrasives but here we've got   a soft scrub which you can usually get in most of
your local Walmart or home-improvement stores or   something like that so this one is good because it
again doesn't have abrasives and what you want to   do is you want to just put a little bit a little
dab of this cleaner on a soft cloth something   like the cleaner cloth or whatever something
that's soft and you want to get the cloth damp   first and then just put a drop of this on your
cloth and then rub that into the end of the key   top so let's say we had you can use it and just
rub it the spot that's stubborn that the   dirt and that will take it right off so those
are those are a couple things you can use the   key brite we found works the best of the products
but again we've got that on our website at   howardpianoindustries.com feel free to visit our
website if you have any questions we've got lots   of products there for taking care of your piano
and we're glad to be of service and help to you
