hello everyone Robert with Granville Holmes here to show you how to check and clean your hot water heater filter now the first thing you want to do before you even open this system up you want to turn off the power to the unit okay now we can go ahead and remove the fastener screw from the panel you do not want to get into the upper panel of the unit at all only a trained professional should be in there go ahead and remove that we're gonna have two valves here the first one we're going to start with is your cold water coming in so we're gonna go ahead and shut that off by lifting up the handle now your flush valves may look a little different than this but they're pretty much the same principle all the way across the board your next valve your hot water coming out and want to go ahead and shut that off as well and there's still water trapped inside the unit so we want to relieve the pressure in the lines currently just like so give me a little bit of water coming out now your filter on the nor it's brand it's gonna be side mounted right here in between your flush valves now if you have the older air nine units that we used to install it's gonna be right here dead center I'm gonna do is unscrew the filter plug remove the plug and the filter and then the filter can be removed by sliding it off the plug then you want to go ahead and take a rag or a brush or crevice tool and clean out any debris that's inside the filter sometimes just running water through this will work once that's all clean go ahead and reattach it to the plug reinstall the plug and the filter hand tight only no pliers on these close the pressure relief line open up your hot water line open up your cold water line and you're good to go this maintenance you're going to want to do every six months as needed once everything's done and go ahead and close the panel back up and kick the power back on the next maintenance that you would have on this would be to flush the unit typically on an annual basis and that's all there is to checking and cleaning your hot water heater filter
