hey folks aj here want to make a quick video on troubleshooting your cold whirlpool tub if your pump is not coming on and off uh when it has a pneumatic system we're going to talk about the button the button options uh the air switch and how to change it in your pump if you find out that it is the air switch that has gone bad all right first we need to understand what the pneumatic system is and what a pneumatic system is it's an air button just like this all right and what you're doing is when you push this air button down you're pushing a puff of air through a piece of air tubing which is this guy right here now for demonstration purposes i only have a foot length here and then the air tubing is connected to the air switch on this particular model right here on the back okay so every time we hit our button you're gonna hear that click it turns the pump on turns the pump off okay so if you're hitting that button and nothing's happening well unfortunately we can't see air folks so we don't know if there's not enough air being produced by the button or if maybe the diaphragm is bad in the switch and it's getting enough air but it's just uh it's leaking or has gone bad or the micro switch that clicks inside the the air switch itself that may be bad so we gotta look at all three of these components and try to figure out which one it is uh that might be causing the problem with the pump not coming on okay so first of all if it is the air button and it's not producing enough air um this is the old style air button if you go to order this button off the website you're gonna be getting the new style one the new style one is a lot easier to push fits in the same exact hole all right we have all the common colors that kohler uses um but it's a nice easy easy push versus the old clumsy style okay so you'll be getting this new air button which is real real nice okay with every air button you get you're gonna get a free length of air tubing all right so you don't have to worry about that now if your air switch has gone bad and it's not clicking okay um i'm going to demonstrate how to change the air switch real quick on this pump here now this particular pump is the kohler 1146 417 it's one of the most common pumps that kohler's been using these days so the first thing we're going to do is we're just disconnect the air tubing from the air switch on the back of the motor all you need is a phillips head screwdriver of course always make sure your plug is unplugged from the outlet all right don't want to get electrocuted so there's two screws that hold the access panel on alright so phillips head screwdriver take these two screws out real quick of course it's probably a lot easier if you actually pull it out of your whirlpool tub um you'd have to disconnect the unions and and the motor bolts but um that little extra work might be worth it for you to change this air switch all right so once we get the cover off you're gonna see the air switch exposed right here all right and um there's a little lock nut that's holding it just hold this up for you so you guys can see it in the camera so uh all you need to do is get a pair of pliers i got my needle nose pliers loosen up that lock nut just like that okay and there's two wires that are on the air switch and you're just going to pull those off it might be stiff okay pull those two guys off this one here i'm gonna use my needle nose pliers only because it's wedged in between that other that other stem there so we pull those two off the new air switch uh oh by the way um the air switch that kohler was using in this pump was a tbs 360 a uh we sell the tbs 310 which is a direct replacement okay um so you'll take the lock nut off and put it right back in the same way it came out okay piece of cake there's two little slots on the air switch they gotta fit in the slots in the compression side of the motor get that back in there like that okay and it does not matter where the two wires go all we're doing is just interrupting the hot okay so it does not matter where the two wires go slide those back on the terminals as such and you'll be back in business okay so that's changing the air switch um the air button let me just go back to that reel real quick um there's a lock nut on the underneath so when you pull hopefully you have an access panel pull the air tubing off you'll take the lock nut off okay when you go to put the new one on um put a bead of silicone let me get the new one for you put a bead of silicone okay around here rear real thin bead of clear ge silicone and put that on first before you put it back into the hole seal that up so no water leakage comes around between the tub and the button and starts dripping water down in there so once you're done with the air switch cover goes back on just the way it came off with two screws hope this video uh gives you all the answers about troubleshooting your color tub uh any questions beyond this video we are
