Please explain how to catch giant sturgeon --

Hey look here cats car car today we're catching giant white sturgeon on the Fraser River hey guys welcome to another episode of catfish and carp and today we're on the banks the Fraser River and Chilliwack British Columbia and we're going fishing for giant white sturgeon and we're gonna do a little sturgeon catch and cook here so we're gonna show you exactly what we're doing how we're doing it and give you all the tips and tricks as well alright guys we're here a fishing guide Steve Kay with sturgeon hunters calm and we are gonna go get some bait fish first and we're gonna climb the food chain here what we're doing is we're cruising around and we're looking for these little fish about a 10 inch fish called northern pike minnow formally referred to as a fish we're gonna catch some bait and once we got some bait then we go sturdy that is a northern pike minnow aka small fish that looks a lot like a chub so you have P mouth chub in here as well yeah but they prefer these so I just throw the chubs back yes we got a little weighted float here about 36 inches of leader little jig head with a bit of earthworm on it so but just put about an inch of warm on and let them just sink the float right now reminds me of fishing for MU night or gold and I on the Mississippi there you go time we got a northern pike me that you I catch a sturgeon with him shake it out right there they're just popping all over the place beautiful little fish I think that's bigger than the one daddy caught that is he's huge we'll catch a massive sturgeon with him well we got about 20 or 30 of these northern pike minnow caught up so we have got bait for two days and now we're gonna go get yourself some surgeon but they show up really good on that side imaging they do it depends on the water though like some spots they show up really good some spots they blend a little bit alright guys got a classic spot here the confluence of two rivers these current seams are always good we got an anchor off the front of the boat letting the current pull us downstream we got a little bit of a crosswind here so check it out got an anchor sock here and the anchor sock is helping keep us oriented with the current and not letting the the wind muck us around as much the other thing to you'll notice is he's using gloves rubber gloves that's to keep human scent off the bait you got the nine autumn I got sooo big river hook one hundred fifty pound braid big old swivel rubber bead some surgical tubing air brake line yeah interesting that keeps it from from wearing away and a weak spot 10 ounces 14 16 ounces twenties 18 s 24 is twenty-twos these rods are big ol fat custom sturgeon rods they feel like like Oh blue water rods to me like they're heavy duty and they got an 800 series valiant little bit of ziplock bag as a bait stop yep basically a live bait right there just not to the mix a little Sakai sturgeon have good taste alright guys so just like catfishing got a time limit we're not gonna sit here for a long time about 20 minutes we get here nothing happens in 20 minutes we're out of here gonna try a different spot we get a little action a little bit of fiddling with it we might stick around longer than that I was just sitting here chatting with the captain and like a 5 foot sturgeon just left out of the water it's like I'm on a whale-watching tour this is this is insane I just I'm getting so pup you'll often hear me talk about moving after 15 or 20 minutes of no no action doesn't mean you have to move far in this situation we're just picking up anchor drifting down 20 feet or so rien Gris and just hitting a different spot in the same hole we're catching a dinosaur what do you think they're thrilled completely thrilled that's 100 pound fish right there sweet that's what we call a good start oh what a beautiful fish this is awesome no yeah he's good to go just turn him sideways they'll swim away thank you very much that's a start that's a great fish whoo my back's tired I'm an old man an old fat man well guys the captain called it you know he just moved it down about 50 feet cut the tail off the bait give it a little bit more of a set trail and sturgeon they like the fast pretty they like everything interesting find them a dead water shell right now we're in really zipping current look at this I'm actually impressed as anchor can hold as well as it does but we're in about 20 feet of water or so fishing a drop-off we're gonna be casting down into like 50 feet of water look at these weights we're using 28 ounce LEDs do you guys get a barge bite where the fish bite with our big boat comes by sometimes eight and a half feet holy mackerel that is eight and a half feet of stirred eight and a half foot probably 325 to 350 pounds the current behind a half feet man that was awesome whoo that was fine all right we're here in another beautiful spot and not too far from the shore here just got a drop off mouth comes out there's no T's in there at all you put your hand right in his mouth you touch his tongue touches tongue well we've caught three awesome sturgeon - around five feet and one an eight and a half feet but uh we're gonna call it a day today well I may have said something about doing a catch and cook sturgeon video now of course keeping and eating one of these great white sturgeon is frowned upon and very illegal but it just so happens that I have some sturgeon caviar right here so we are going to do a catch and cook sorta this little can right here was 96 Canadian dollars and we're gonna try it I've eaten a lot of fish eggs I've eaten flying fish eggs Cod eggs salmon eggs I've never eaten sturgeon eggs though so this is gonna be a first for me so that's the farm surgeon this is there's a 1 land-based fish farm that raises white sturgeon they're originally from Fraser River stock they started probably about 15 years ago 15 16 years ago I'm 13 years before they had got big enough to get a crop see if I could even get this jar open Oh looks kind of like poppy seeds or something not a strong flavor to salmon this is one heck of a way to celebrate my my eight and a half foot white sturgeon by eating its babies little fishies you guys like caviar at all I got a hundred bucks of caviar here I can't eat by myself and I ain't taking it home you want to try it you sure it's not bad actually give it a go well I mean when is someone gonna ever offer you $100 carrier that can was this 96 bucks I think I'm still well there seems to be a unanimous unanimous yeah yeah there seems to be a consensus among the residents here that they would prefer to bite the head off a fish over eating my hundred dollar caviar shell I look like I'm going to be eating the whole thing by myself here but no problem there's room for all in this belly well thanks very much that welcome loads of fun I will see you tomorrow morning well here we are it's another beautiful morning and we're ready for day two of sturgeon fishing here on the Fraser River well guys we still have bait left over from yesterday and our guide met a dude in the back alley who hooked them up with a couple grams of sockeye so we're gonna take our eight ball of sockeye and our other our other bait and we're gonna get right to it today so we'll see what happens I'm not sure how on earth we could possibly top yesterday but the braiser River can do it in a heartbeat if it wants to so we'll see what happens one two three four five six sighs not one seven the sonar has been blowing up lots of good marks on here so we're gonna give it a go let it hit for about 30 minutes or so see what we get we like what we see great if not this was not a ripper jumper that's nice oh we got that strike when I was in the middle of putting jammies on Tom he was complaining about being cold right in the middle of it the worst time possible Ron goes tap tap honk and Tommy goes flying through the air like a discarded article of clothing he took it pretty well though but he seems no worse for the wear that's him to warm him up well we got one fish out of that hole but nothing much happened after that so we're moving spots but man these these drift socks have been saving our bacon here with the wind kicking up like it has the grip socks helped keep the boat oriented with the current even if there's a cross wind blowing check out these rod holders fold me makes them they got this weird kind of action takes a little getting used to but seems to work pretty well opens up like a clamshell and then closes up when you put the rod in but if you try to pull it out sideways locks up on like a little bit chocolate this fish has more runs than a man who drinks Mexican tap water we're gonna need a bigger boat yeah right on right on the fork call me - eight - yeah another 300 pound plus fish there you go also gonna get a chance to pet a dinosaur what I like to do is just sort of hold them in the Kern a little bit so just let them feel that current for a little bit pushing the current look Tommy I wet my pants guys I feel selfish I feel selfish how many people never in their life get to see or catch an eight-foot sturgeon I'm gonna do it twice Oh Stevie Ray one jokingly says he knows how to catch the big boys that's a good fish that thing was stronger I think the other one maybe didn't tire itself out as much with the jumpin but that that put the hurt on me alive where did that first one so Steve just told me that that sturgeon right there the one we just landed was the fiftieth fish they've caught this year it was eight feet or longer that's insane guys this is an amazing amazing fishery now let him go he's ready to go about a 6-footer watching the sturgeon jump when you got them on the hook it's like watching Shark Week it's awesome guys it really is awesome these guys just sitting there being heavy let me pull this all right tell me about five feet Thanks we caught three fish yesterday - five footers in the eight and a half footer today we caught three six-footers a five footer and an eight footer so if my Master's me correctly that's 49 feet of sturgeon in two days that's amazing come here fight
