hi I'm Kristy Simpson with Kristy Simpson net and in this crochet video tutorial I will be teaching you how to crochet the crocodile fish it is a very popular pattern that has texture to any project with this pattern you will be able to complete a and scarf and add it to any project and feel confident completing the crocodile stitch so get your hook and supplies and let's get started for this tutorial I use the red heart unforgettable boutique and it is the pillow and for the crocodile stitch we will start out with 21 chains so let's get that done really fast 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 now I won't go that fast throughout the entire tutorial I was just trying to get this chain going so we can learn here alright I like to use this yarn because it does change colors and short rows so that you do get a unique texture and a unique color pattern with their crocodile stitch you can use solid but this is also a fun way to be able to see your stitches as you go for the crocodile stitch we have change 21 and now we will double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook and that will give us one double crochet here the chains count and then the other double crochet and now let's double crochet in each chain across a lot of people are intimidated by data crocodile stitch just because it is a texture stitch and it is made in two rows and it's not something that's embellished or added back onto the work it's worked rot into it but it's really simple and whenever I learned years ago I like bumped my head because like seriously that's all there is to it just learning where to place your stitches okay a couple more here and we're almost to the end okay whenever we get to the end we are going to chain three and start on the next row working back across what we just created okay we just worked in the last chain there so let's chain three one two three and we're going to turn okay see this first post this is what we will be working on I'm going to turn my work back around okay turn it sideways and we're working from this from right to left across the post not in the stitch but in the post so we're going to place three double crochets on this post two three and that gives us a total of four because that first chain three counts okay then chain one now turn your work back over and you have your four double crochets here and your chain one now your next post right here is what you will be working on so turn so that you can work from right to left across it as well and I take and I kind of just hold it out so that I can work in the post around the post like that so one two three four see I told you that was easy so now you have your first crocodile stitch completed and it looks like a little crocodile stitch or a teardrop or whatever it comes down here now some patterns will call for five double crochets or even six double crochets or chain two or chain three here but my pattern is normally called for eight chain I'm sorry double crochet for now skip two stitches crocodile stitch which means four double crochet down chain one four double crochet up so skip two and we're going to turn our work so we can just work across that bar so one two three four chain one and again turn your work and work from right to left or from bottom to top of the next post one two three four now skip two stitches and we will do it one more time and then you can finish this row and then I'll show you how to work back across the next row one two three four chain one and four more stitches or see how I just take and turn my work towards me so I can work on this next post one two three four complete the throw and join me back here to work on the next row now that we have completed this crocodile stitch row you should have five one two three four five crocodile stitches and you may be wondering well how does this work because the center is loose well this is next row is where we will correct that so chain three one two three and turn now double crochet in that last stitch which you will be working not on the side but just on the top edge of it so now you have two double crochet now double crochet in the center of the crocodile stitch two time and then remember on the front where this was loose like that this is where we will secure that to the piece so hold it tight and whenever you work in the two double crochet that were not working you're going to work in the center not in a stitch but in between those two go under yarn over and pull back through and complete like a double crochet now whenever you yarn under yarn over and go under make sure you grab the center of the crocodile stitches and double crochet again here okay two double crochet in the center two double crochet in the center of the unworked crocodile stitches and make sure you line up the front so that you can just go straight under and it will just pull it all together and hold it securely so two in the Unwerth in the center I'm sorry and then two in the end worked seeing what goes right under it we're easy two in the center of the crocodile stitch two in the center of the unworked and see how this unforgettable this boutique yarn just changes colors it's so pretty okay now to complete this row the first chain three of the last row which was the first double crochet of the crocodile stitch not here we're going to count that as a stitch the very edge of it so two double crochets there to finish the row now I will get you started on the next row okay turn and see what we've got and you have your crocodile stitch here in your two double crochet chains at the top but to work back across we're going to turn our work back around just because it's easier to start that way chain three and on that very first post that very first double crochet place three double crochet because this is your first one and it will give you a total of four so one two three four and chain one and this is when I turn my work okay and now there's really no guessing as to where your next four double crochet will go it's in this one here so that you can finish your crocodile stitch so turn your work so that you can work from Racha cross that post like it's just one stitch in place four double crochet one two three and four now what we have here is it's going to be staggered so one here this is your first row you will skip these two double crochet and we will work the neck one here which will drop it in the center which will stagger it you'll skip to work crocodile stitch skip to work it here so let's do a few more and then I think as long as you can read the pattern for a crocodile stitch and get that going you will know how to complete the actual stitch and know what it looks like and how to find your way around where to put your stitches okay so we got those for now the next post the next double crochet turn it towards you and four double crochet on that post okay now we have to pour that route row skip to four double crochet on this one right here so turn your work and my parents will say four double crochet down the first post chain one four double crochet up the next post and so now hopefully that makes a little more sense we just four crochet down turn and then four crochet up okay let's see what we have like I told you before they are staggered and as you work your crocodile stitch you can see how even more so it will be and how it changes colors isn't that pretty so this is where we started and you had your double crochet row first and then you worked your crocodile stitch on it then you did the two double crochet and then you lock this one down and then you came back across with a crocodile stitch two double crochet crocodile stitch two double crochet in each crocodile stitch see it's justed to get one row you have to do two rows and then this is staggered and when you use a variegated yarn it will have this effect and you can use solid but this is basically all you have to do for a crocodile stitch you
