contrary to popular belief dry-cleaning is not the best method of getting your cashmere clean hand washing is hey I'm style expert samsa bora and i'm going to show you the best way to hand wash your cashmere now you want to start with a basin filled with warm water it should be about 85 degrees or just warm to the touch I like to use a low alkaline detergent or baby shampoo you put about a teaspoon per gallon of water gently agitate the water a little bit to pick up some bubbles and go ahead and place your cashmere sweater gently into the water now if you're planning on watching a bunch of cashmere at once start with your lighter colors and work your way up to the darks this will keep the water clean gently twirl the sweater around for about two to five minutes depending on how soil the sweater is the twirling method is the best way to get your sweater clean because rubbing the fabric together will cause pilling and agitate the fabric after you're done twirling you're gonna want to rinse you can transfer your sweater into clean water and I love to use bins because if you rinse your cashmere underneath running water it can tend to stretch out the fabric you may want to change your bin a couple of times to get all the water clean and you'll know it's clean when all the soap suds are going drain out all the water if you're washing in a sink or transfer to a clean empty bin and gently press the sweater up against the sides you never want to wring your clothes because that's actually more agitation than a spin cycle in your washing machine on delicate after you've pressed out all the excess water you're ready to dry go ahead and grab a clean white towel that's large enough to fit your whole sweater and you want to lay it flat smooth out all the wrinkles and if you got long sleeves make sure there's a little bit of space between the body of the sweater and the sleeve and then you want to start at the top and gently roll the sweater over the towel pressing gently this is gonna be a great way to remove all the excess water from your sweater and make your drying a lot faster once you're all rolled up gently press just for a couple minutes then go ahead and unroll your towel gently if there's still moisture you can go ahead and repeat this process with a clean dry towel but you're gonna be amazed at how dry the sweater is just after one roll in the towel all right now you're ready to dry I love to use one of these mesh sweater racks they're a fantastic way of drying your sweaters because they allow for the air to pass through the knit and get it dry superfast gently lay your sweater across the rack and stretch it into shape smoothing out all your wrinkles and you're all set you want to let your sweater dry overnight or until it's dry to the touch you're gonna be amazed at how soft it is it's gonna smell fantastic and you're gonna save a ton of money on dry-cleaning not to mention your cashmere is gonna last a whole lot longer
