hi there if you're watching this video you most likely got a kid from us at Halloween we're raw learning we're a private school in a homeschool resource center in Sanford India and up if you might have found our video also through YouTube it's a great way to learn how to make a very simple catapult so when the kids we head for Halloween we had all the parts inside a plastic bag so we're not going to need that I'm going to put that to the side for the project today we also included a really fun magnet for from our school as you can put on your fridge but we're gonna put that aside right now the key components for making the catapult or five popsicle sticks one spoon and six rubber bands and some ammo we've included an extra rubber band and the kit just in case one broke so I'm gonna put that aside since it's not really needed for the project unless we have a problem the other thing you want to get get to make this kit maybe is a pencil or a pen and to go ahead and put your name here where it says built by on the catapult so that you can maybe keep it straight between you and your brothers and sisters in the house and you know who's catapult is whose okay so the first step is to get the spoon and one of the popsicle sticks and you're going to put the popsicle stick underneath the spoon like this what you look like that then you are going to take one of the rubber bands and you're going to pull it out with two fingers here and I like to hold it with my thumb here and then I as I'm going wrapping it around I turn a little bit like this and wrap one of the edges around once and twice okay if you've never seen this before you might want to ask someone in your house with long hair they very often so that we put the the the rubber bands in your hair as well and they might be able to show you this trick so again just turn it and then you're gonna wrap it around and then I'm going to turn it and then I'm going to wrap it around alright so we've got two rubber bands now on the end of our catapult here and then the next step is we're gonna put that down for a second and gather up three of the of the additional popsicle sticks and stack them on top of each other like this and then we're going to slide those inside the catapult like this so those three sticks go crossways and the catapult and then we are going to take the last stick and we're going to place it on top of those so it's underneath the entire catapult here next we are going to take the rubber band where there are bands and we're going to again go like this twist and around and twist and around on one side to hold that together and twist and around and twist and around to hold that together so now you're left with two more rubber bands and we are going to put the rubber band over the one end here so this is one of the side pieces we just did I'm going to put it on top so it's just a loop like this then what I want you to do is to grab it with two fingers lift it up twist it and bring it around the other side to make this cross that helps make the catapult more stable okay the last rubber band simply goes over top of the spoon like this okay so we've made our catapult and now it might need a little bit of adjustment we're going to move this part of the catapult forward to give us more power and we can move it backwards for less power also the purpose of this rubber band at the top is helped direct the energy either horizontally or more in the forward direction or if we put it behind the rubber band it will go more vertically or in the upward direction so in this case I would like to shoot my ammo and the more forward direction so I'm going to place it there then I'm going to use two of my fingers to hold very firmly at the base of the catapult I'm going to push down on the edge of the spoon with my finger and I'm going to pull straight back you don't want to try to lift up you'll lose all your power you want to press straight down and pull your fingers straight back and that's how you launch the catapult thanks for building with us today again we're all learning we're located in Staunton Virginia we're a private school and homeschool Resource Center you can visit our website at learning org we hope you enjoyed building with us today thank you
