Hi I'm Frank Olivieri, owner of Pat's King
of Steaks in South Philadelphia, the originator of the Philly steak sandwich and cheesesteak
sandwich. Perfect ingredients in a Philadelphia Cheesesteak
are the freshest bread possible, we use ribeye meat, Spanish onions or white onions and cheese
whiz or American or Provolone, however you like it. All the ingredients have to play nicely together. I mean, everything has to be the best quality
as possible, but it's all hinged upon the bread. The bread is the vehicle which carries all
the other ingredients inside of it, so if your bread is not good, your bread's a little
stale, or it's too spongey or too crispy, it's not going to be a good vehicle to carry
all the meat inside and the cheese and the onions. There really isn't a specific cheese that
you should have on your cheesesteak. All cheeses are good as far as I'm concerned. But the one we sell the most of is Kraft cheese
whiz. That's our most popular sandwich, it's our
signature sandwich. What I think makes Kraft Cheese Whiz so popular
is it's one of those things where it's made to be served warm in its liquidy stage. It melts all inside of the nooks and crannies
of the bread and soaks it and plays nicely with the fat from the meat and the onions,
the sweetness from the onions -- it just all goes together just... it's kind of like, maybe
for lack of analogy, the glue that holds the sandwich together.
