hey there so I'm not sure if the beginning portion the failed portion of this build is gonna make it onto this video just because I did it with a shitty GoPro that is shitty go proneness but this is part two kind of sort of this is what I have so far I'm not sure if I got the making this chimney here on the side there's a water pump in the bottom it's just a box of styrofoam and then here I have siliconed another piece of styrofoam to the back so that spray foam has something to stick to that's not gonna peel away from the glass as soon as it gets wet and it's just being pressed down there until it was dry with the drainage layer and some sponge okay here we go so we've got this down tight it's not gonna go anywhere got this this top part comes off and you can see in the last awesome in the last iteration of this at least I'll have a photo of it somewhere the start the only thing that the foam stuck to you was this so when I peeled it off from the back but you can still see some silicone there it peeled off this little corner hopefully I can salvage this at least a little bit I've got this top piece here which fits on just like that it's inset so that this cord can run up through that little hole there so I can go like this all right and then that's all nice and clean so this part here I'm gonna have to spray foam I guess I'll spray foam it with it off and then cut a void so that it can spit in there the rest of it is going to get some foam and this will be coming into a reservoir cup where my fogging unit right here this little fogging unit will be sitting inside the cup the reservoir cup and it'll also be going out one of those holes there like that is the idea and that'll be covered with moss and all those types of things so so I'll be using this stuff it's cheap it works sort of doesn't stick to glass worse things have happened so right now I'm just making the little reservoir out of this little cup I don't know if it'll be always made out of this cup or I'll change it but it does hold water and it's not gonna break down so I like its chances of just staying the way it is of course the foam will come up over the edge and make this not sharp because it is very sharp right now well I need a better cut than that so we're gonna try again so what I've got going is I've got a soldering iron heating up I've got this cup here after attempts one and two that turned out horribly and cracked let's hope this works so what I'm gonna do now is assuming I can find a marker Gold is gonna have to work so I'm gonna do is I'm going to try and mark this as close as humanly possible close enough so now I've got some kind of guide so when I do this I can go all the way through it and just melt into it okay so now that we're here I put these gloves on these super protective don't get great stuff all over your hands kind of gloves this stuff you pop it open like that so the last time I tried this you have to be super careful when you're using the trigger because it likes to come out hard and fast so let's oh wait I was supposed to shake it see okay now that I've shaken it up a bit we can put the first layer of this stuff on should look something a little bit like this okay now want to put this down right there this guy wants to go right in there just like that then I can I'm gonna have to do a couple of layers because this stuff puffs up and then kind of falls but the general idea of it is I want this to be the thickest part I don't know how nosy Petrie is in the background there always remember I can cut away more not like I'm running low on foam okay so now I'm gonna leave it like that to dry hopefully when I come to do the second layer it's not an absolute nightmare see this is kind of the frustrating part because every step in this build has like a four or five day direct dry time now the foam I'm gonna let drive for 24 hours ish and then I'll do another layer and then I'll do the bottom layer yeah after that you let it dry and then the silicon has another super long drying time okay so we're back here Oh God Petrey so we're back here and this is all hardened up real good so now I'm gonna do coat number two and watch that okay so now the idea is that I'm kind of forcing the shape of the waterfall here so there's more on there that is going to expand in there like that yeah so you can kind of see where I'm trying to build it so it comes down down like that there's a lot of this that's gonna get cut out yeah so now we let that dry and then we work on the bottom portion with most of this can that's still left and yeah then we start cutting [Applause] okay so I'm not sure where I left off because this projects kind of taking really long time to finish but what I've been doing is once all the foam is dried I take just like a regular kitchen knife and I've been cutting it so that there's flatter edges instead of this bubbly stuff let's see all my like scrap down here that I have yet to clean up but right now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to use this little dremel tool here and we carve out the little water effect and then fine-tune some of these other little areas so now that I've done foam and cut that down it's all rigid on there it's all dried it's all shaped off or they could just did that was a part where I'm honest and I say I screwed up last time and use the wrong silicone which is why I'm having to redo this whole project not only that but this time I also have a swagman peat moss which is quite a bit more fine and should grab onto the silicone better it's a little damp right now so I'm just gonna let that dry out before I get going on this I'm gonna do it section at a time I think I'll start with the two the two side sections and then I'll do the middle I don't know if I want to do the sand thing again in the middle where I still cone it and then put the sand down so that it looks like it's got its little little pathway or Beach just add like variety or whatever I think I'm just gonna do it all in peat moss and yeah hopefully it works this time what I'm using is the all-purpose silicone GE silicone one I'm using the clear just because they didn't have the black it doesn't say anti mold on it which is good because I hear that the anti mold properties of this stuff is actually arsenic which is fun and then I got this nice little mixing bucket for when I got to do the substrate afterwards okay so it's been a while hair has started to grow back because I'm lazy and we're gonna try and get this all covered today and probably get some of these ready latex gloves should I should probably have one on before I start it's probably a better idea hey I can already smell it well I'm gonna have to cover this with the trash bag to let it dry what now got some holes drilled out so now we just start feeding it on there so now what I'm gonna do I'm gonna pull this one off thank goodness and I'm just gonna start shoveling in yeah this okay now what I've done is I flipped it all up so it's facing the other way now and I'm gonna pop open this and get back at it right now I'm going to massage it all in you break its pinky so it's Braden from the future here and what happened is before I was using my phone and I unfortunately smashed the camera on my phone so then I had to switch over to my Canon but the audio is absolute garbage so I figured I might as well just kind of stop it and just narrate the rest of it so you're not gonna hear any audio from the camera itself but you will have me to hopefully explain things for you right now I'm just vacuuming out some of these some of these other parts from the spots that we missed and it's kind of hard to get a weird like all these weird angles with the with the vacuum but you just kind of keep at it and keep pushing and you get it you get it eventually making sure to go over all of the all those parts that are like supposed to be glued on there so like only the stuff that's glued there and then what we're doing is we're going through and we are adding silicone on to the waterfall portion make sure it's super waterproof so that can carry the water I ran out of clear silicone so I just had to use the white stuff I had is still the non anti mold like yeah non anti mold GE one I was just white instead of clear and had purchased some at the time for like some other project and then I did go ahead and I put sand down all on that just for some variety in the in the texturing so that it wasn't it wasn't just like eek over it the whole time or a speck of moss so it was kind of a pain in the ass to get the to get all the sand on there and it ended up with like some weird flaps or whatever but I figure that those might be good anchor points for moss or something later on then we go through and we vacuumed it all out sand is not good for your vacuum it's not it's not great it's really hard and rough on it but you can see here the flaps and whatever but it's kind of nice just because it adds texture too and then it'll give good plant it plants some good anchor points maybe later on so right here what I'm doing is I am making like kind of a rain drain for the the whole thing so that I can put it in later on and siphon out any any kind of water or whatever that it need to whenever I need to do that and this is some polyfill this is the polyfill that I'm using as the as a filter for for the pump so that the water when it gets fed to the pump it gets filtered out a little bit that way it's kind of always running clean water yeah and as you can see it's there it's in its place it's got its lights on it so right now I'm just pointing out that the filter pump is back there and I'm putting the polyfill just all right up and beside it I ended up that chimney I ended up filling it with polyfill also just to dampen the sound so although it's a lot less noisy now than it was when I first fired it up which is really nice and you can see me talking there's okay the audio isn't on dummy it was actually yeah big oops but the audio was anyway so that's fine and that's now I'm planning out where where that siphon drain is gonna go you'll see it's not always gonna have that shitty blue cap and just like on top of that that chimney there the that white cap that I made for it that it's inset it doesn't always stay that way and then we put the drainage layer in it's just those expanded clay balls and we're putting the filter in and we're just gonna cut a little hole for the drainage or for the for the siphon just so that it stays right where it is and there's no like substrate leaking down and clogging up the filters too quickly you can see the that little drain in that little pond I made so that the water when it flows in there I can flow out of there also I put it on the far side just so that there's a maximum amount of movement within the within the the bottom layer as possible and this siphon layer I have holes in the bottom of it so there's no stagnant water so there's never never any kind of worry about stagnant gross water so right now what I'm doing is I'm going to start adding the substrate in there and it was a I should have another video coming out on what substrate I use it's basically a peat moss eco earth charcoal like busted up charcoal a little bit of topsoil mix and yeah I've had really good results where it holds it holds moisture pretty good and it has a lot of drain onto it so like it'll hold X amount of moisture and then from there it'll just drain the rest so it's perfect for what I need it for as you can see there's not a whole hell of a lot I'm not having any burrowing species in here I'm just gonna have like little frogs or whatever mostly this is for the plants just so that they can I don't know look nice in on my shelf with a running waterfall and then maybe he's put some critters in there at some point I still don't have any any frogs or anything in their list that's gonna come down the road and then doing both sides there you need a lot less substrate than you think you would but a lot more drainage layer than you thought you then you would think you would because the the problem I faced was that the drainage layer had to come up at up to a high enough point where the reservoir in the that little pond there could stay like visible so there was enough water in there that it was like you could see that there's a little bit of water and of course it's not stagnant water it's coming down through the waterfall and going out through the drainage layer back towards the pump up through the waterfall and repeating just adding more and you can see those little those little lumps of charcoal in there those are kind of nice adds a little more texture to although leaf litter ends up covering mostly everything and here I'm pointing out the the cap the caps not gonna stay blue like I said before and this is the this is kind of like the moment of truth time I'm just using some some bottled water they're just from like Walmart or something it's yeah this this one's distilled just because I didn't want like any crap in it I wanted to do a good flush I ended up draining it out afterwards and then putting in a treated aquarium water so here first thing I'm doing is I'm getting all the substrate all kind of damp and packed down so that that's ready to go for for plants and things like that and you can see like it's just pushing a whole bunch of a whole bunch of like dirt and crap into the in turn into that little pond there which is good because I end up it ends up going into the drainage layer and getting filtered out so I don't you never really have to worry about it for very long I also ended up putting a little bit of polyfill in that in that little hose there so that that active is kind of a first the first filter the water hit and just in case like any I get any animals that like like to be in the water a lot never get stuck down I also ended up putting a little bit of rocks in there and things like that so I think this is the point where I plug it in yeah well bump the camera a little bit okay here we go a moment of truth so you can see everything is still kind of settling I ended up those those pots there that I kind of made I cut them they were last-minute they kind of didn't really think about it too much it's like well I could use some anchor points for some plants maybe a bromeliad or something but I ended up putting a couple of cuttings from plants already have around my house that I know will work in that kind of situation which is kind of nice I ended up working really really well so that's an entire 4 liter this this tank is a eighteen by eighteen by eighteen so that just ate the entire four liter and I think it ends up eating another two liters from another one too and now I'm just checking the water level to make sure it's hitting the pump I've noticed that over overnight the water level kind of fluctuates a little bit I'm assuming cuz like that great stuff soaks up a lot of the lot of the water which is I mean I didn't buy aquarium foam didn't really mean anything to me so here we see that the pump is working the biggest thing I didn't really realize at first is that it had to fill up that cup so I'm like well I hear it and I hear it going but I don't see any water because it was filling up the cup or so long and then here we go finally with the with the working waterfall and it's been five days six days now and like none of the sand has come loose or anything and it's all still working really really well so I'm very happy with it I think the next couple of shots plants just sort of appear in there I'm not really gonna do a detailed video on what plants I use I think this is like the most important part of it but there you can see the little little lake up there I end up trying to cover it with moss just because like I don't want to have a critter get in there and then get stuck so I just kind of cover it up until I can get that fogger in there and then that'll be really really cool get some super loose peat moss or something and then put it on top so that the the fog just kind of rolls over the side of that hill there they are probably talking about the the pebbles that I'm planning on putting in there you can see in the tank beside it actually that that Swiss cheese plant oh here here we're covering that that chimney cap and that blue lid so what we're gonna do is we're gonna treat it just the same as we did pretty much everything else we just covered it all right up and stick it right into the eco wears making sure not to get it on the threads you don't want to you don't want to gum up the threads or anything like that so you just put it in there stick it in there squeeze it down and repeat this rinse and repeat pretty much with the with the other one make sure to keep that channel that I made open for that wire so that is a nice tight seal on the on the pump this one is a little bit more difficult to cover just cuz it was so awkwardly shaped and I didn't really have a lot of substrate left in that bucket and I didn't want to make more just for that bucket so here's here's some leaf litter just and you can see that that I have a goldfish plant just in that one and then it puts a little bit of moss up over on top there that that cup here is springtails in that green lid and then there's dwarves I so pods in that white one so those are the cleanup crew for the for the vivarium and those are basically gonna break down any like decaying matter waste any mold that might arise those those who's gonna take care of all of that and the dwarf white isopods I saw that they were on some of the leaves so I just stuck the leaves right in there because I can always just get more I have a I have a stockpile from this fall and then I sterilized a whole bunch so not really too worried about that and then I think I take the spoon here and yeah just scoop out some of the substrate right into there so that way you're getting all the babies and things like that too right and as you can see that that waterfall is really going it's it's going and and in that that little bottom area there it looks like kind of murky and it's gonna be like that anytime even like aquariums and things like that when you first set them up to murky for a little while right now I can look over and it's totally clean I'll get I'll get some shots afterwards of like the final product and maybe I'll do a whole nother video on on when I get some some animals in there or something so this ISIL are the spring tails are super easy to put in there you just pour some of the water that's already in there and they just kind of go crazy they just go right over the edge with the water and they get into your soil and that's that this is kind of when I've started planting I think that's most of the plants there I've got some mosses and things that you get from stores or whatever and I took a couple of cuttings from some other plants that have done really well in Bavarians I've got some seashells there and that kind of like little nook there that's the that's the end product of that lid and now we're gonna we're gonna replace the old one with it I believe I move the tripod this is this is what it looks like with the lights off just because it's a pain to get at that chimney when the lights are there because they're in the way super in the way and then you can see that polyfill there that I put all down that down that chimney so that it's went much less noisy like the the difference it made is huge and then it kind of missed those little corners there what I think I'm gonna do there is I'm just gonna put some wait till the moss kind of starts to take over and just kind of tack it up there and let it let it take hold I shouldn't have to take it off very often if at all and then you can see there at the bottom that's the with the new lid I didn't bother filming that just cuz it's the same as what I just did and also I don't know if you saw that but you can see the oil that's my that's my LED grow light that I have on there that's specifically for the plants and then I have a couple of lights in that other hood that's a UVA UVB and a high compact fluorescent combo and then in the bottom there in that little lake I have a I have some pebbles just like black aquarium pebbles and that's what it looks like pretty much right now this is this is current yeah so just talking about the different plants as a goldfish plant I don't honestly I don't even know what that bottom right one is I've just had it forever and it works great in vivarium so fine by me and then there's that Swiss cheese vine on the bottom left there and that is that so this is uh Brayden from the future saying thank you very much for watching you can find me on all the social media at total chaos even Petri is trying to give a little commentary I don't
