Please explain how to tune drum sets : replacing a snare drum head

First thing you want - first thing you're
going to do, double-check, make sure everything is clean. You're going to want to line up
your Remo head, just wherever, top snare, kind of classic Remo head right there. You
want to get that, and here's my rim. You'll want to take this out. Line these up with
the lugs right there, just kind of set it up on there. And when you're tuning a snare,
you're going to hear a lot of cracking at first. It's a horrible sound, but it's going
to be - it's going to be - you have to hear those cracking in order to have a good sound
quality. Now first, see if all these are on, just going to slightly - just going to put
these in here slightly, just let them rest in there. Just kind of get them all set for
tuning here. Again, I like to use the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, that kind of method across from each
other: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Let everything be tuned equally throughout the drum. And
first, you're going to want to start by tightening these pretty much all the way. You can even
do it with the key. Pretty much until you have your stopping point, kind of right there,
starts to push down on the rim. You kind of want to get that feeling again. And this is
just, overall, you want to get it set up right now. I'm not getting in to the tuning part
yet. I'm not getting into that yet. And again, this is my kind of style of tuning I've picked
up over the years. You've just really got to experiment with tuning, just kind of practice.
Don't be afraid to practice on your stuff. Go and get a new head if you have to. Really
low right now. Snare, you just want a c-r-r-ack! Really nice sound of it, and I'm going to
start with my first lug up here, I'm going to tune it. Kind of feel where I want it.
I'm going to do about like - maybe like - oh, let's do three turns about. 1, 2, 3. On second
thought, let's do four. There we go: 4, alright. You're going to want to go opposites. Get
that feel of where your lug is hitting. 3, 4. You already kind of start hearing that
cracking. 1, 2.
