hey guys it's Jamie here from coastal barbecue today I'm going to teach you how to cure your own hand we're going to start with a pork leg and transform it into that favorite delicious incredible holiday ham it's really simple you really only need to add one simple ingredient to your brine which is this curing salt this is pink salt frog powder number one and we picked it up from our local butcher the butcher's block make sure you check them out in the in the description box below as well as like comment and subscribe to this channel for more videos like this barbecue cooking reviews tutorials boom let's get Kiran you you so what you're going to need to make your own ham at home is obviously one ham this is uncured fresh pork leg and we're going to make a brine a curing Brian actually and we got 8 cups of water and one and a half cups of salt two cups of brown sugar and a bunch of spices that we threw together along with that the secret ingredient is this prog powder number one or pink salt that's what this is here and this is what is going to transform your pork leg into that ham texture that giving it the color of the taste so make sure you get that so we're going to want to do first is take your water got eight cups of water here clicks pour it in all right so once the water is boiling you're going to take a cup and a half of salt and just pour that in next you have two cups of brown sugar again pour all that in and then our spices I use whatever spices that you like lastly you want to add your curing salt we're using seven teaspoons for this q ER so take your hot mixture and pour it into another 8 cups of cold water so just dilute it a little bit and cool it down right away so that you can actually use it soon we're also going to add some ice cubes to pull it down even more well stir those our schemes around and that will that will just keep the temperature down alright so we got our cure ready and now it's time for the fun part we're going to actually inject it we're going to put the the needle in to tell it's touching the bone really and then inject it all over it's going to speed up your cure to only a couple days and then it'll be ready for the grill so we're going to inject it put it in a bucket fill it up and then put it in the fridge you one trick to do is grab a plate and just place the plate on top and that will make sure that the pork stays submerged the entire time so the last thing to do is to put it in the fridge so that's how you cure that pork leg to make that delicious ham you always thought about you've always dreamed about is that easy make sure you pick up that's a curing salt it does wonders if you want ham specifically other than that make sure you like and comment on this video as well as if you want to see more videos like this and barbecue cooking tutorials and reviews make sure you hit the subscribe button below until next time see you later
