Please explain how to repot a serissa bonsai tree.

it's just a video about how to replant your bonsai tree this is what I'm going to do for you now I've done one earlier and that's it in the garden they getting ready for the summer it's just beginning of March tomorrow so this is the best time to do it now the best way to do it is just take off all your little ornaments little Chinese men I'll take them for one side from them and if you look at the way these plants grow this is a quite a well-established plant actually about this tree what going on for 30 years now bong it and it was only that big when I first bought it no look at that's huge and on the surface you've got all this grass sorry these jus moss anything that tends to grub in a damp hair you'll get a knot on the surface so the first thing you want to do is get one of these this is just a little bit garden for going for kitchen fork Nick that out of the kitchen don't tell the wife and I've made it look like a crawl okay so you're just going to use that to scrape it off but later on when you get into the roots you can use something like this pretty evil looking into I'll make double yourself an old fall handle a bit just a bit of bent nail with a sharp point on the end and you continue through the roots we're going to circle minute right so this bit just scrape off the all the moss rubbish you don't want been growing for probably about a year well over a year and they've probably two years and you get all these trees right in the garden so they will tend to pick up any seeds at the birds drop anything that grows and so on so I'm just all that for now and that's how you do it just simply scrape it off with the fork okay now if you just wait there for a second of show you what it looks like when it's done okay so that's done now and I'll just scrape all the all the stuff off here you've got a little bit Mawson and stuff in the bottom there I just zoom in a bit so you can actually see what it looks like on the surface I've only gone down a little white okay just to show you you see the roofs are starting to show already because there's quite a few roots in there and we just want to make an area where it got a very small root ball on root pruning and then fill it in with what we call akadama which is the soil I'll be showing you later on it's like a clay comes from Japan it's not that very expensive on eBay and I'm going to take the tree out of the pot in a minute and I will show you how to tease the roots out and get the soil out to the base of the tree okay so again if you just hang on a second we'll come back and I'll show you how it's done all right there's the pot I've taken in the kitchen and give it a good clean out it's exactly the same pot oh you don't have to change the size of the pot when you replant normal pocket sorry plants you put it in the bigger pot you don't need to advance I put a couple of roofs off the base and hopefully put it back in the same pot anyway there's a tree outside if I show on the base here I don't know if you can see those little two little two little pieces of metal sticking through what they are is just prongs made of wire you can buy those in bonsai tree shop or whatever and all it is is just an iminium wire no the idea of that is to go through the two holes on the base of the pot which you probably faint or we will find when you take it out and they're there to bolt it literally fix it onto the bottom of the pot okay if you look here you can see that the the actual roots are quite it's quite well rooted there that you can see and the base is the wire sticking up and what you want to do is tease all everything back so the roots hang freely you can trim them off and tease away the soil like I said with the two little tools this one here looks like Captain Hook and I made for you Nick Tate the kitchen don't whoof now it's a bit of a long process this so on the pause video and show you by the way this tree is actually sarisa now they've renamed forever smelly roots because they sit in damp conditions all the time there must be a dam once it dries up it will die so unlike other trees where you can let them dry just a little bit and keep them top top of water but this one must be kept in water all the time and you see it's doing very well another name for it is a tree of a thousand stars maybe the reason for that is when it in the summer when you say there'll be hundreds of little tiny white flowers all over it and it's literally like looking at the night sky with stars is literally thousands on hundreds in this case it's not that'd be okay so to give me a second and I'll tease all the roots say I'll take the soil out and then we can get started on later actually repot it okay hold on there all right you see the roots coming out there I'd like to say something take a long time to do this I'll just I'll show you how I do it just tease them out gently because most of these roots are gonna be cut off anyway there's a little bit of gravel in the bottom there which used to comfortable to soak away so it's not in Sarah water all the time and under here we've got this little bit of gauze mesh it's like a nylon mesh that you've got the hut over the holes in the bottom of the pot and see two little marks where the holes work and don't keep that bit to clean it off and you can reuse that because that will allow the water to drain out with a losing the little stones in the bottom and just carry on doing this yeah I would say when it amended actual trees and flower there are literally hundreds of little tiny what but little flowers you know it's nice to see it and the other thing about this particular tree is you can prune it any time of year it doesn't really matter how often you do it this one needs a bit of a prune as you can see the leaves are a quite big and there's lots of little shoots growing on there they will eventually show flowers but what I've done the root prune I'm going to go to the top and and prune all the leaves off that we don't want and get a nice shape to it and that's another thing about shape as well I haven't people get the bonsai tree they think it would have put war or I've written end up with some really weird shape things this one you see like on bit mad reshaping that it was only about two or three inches Holly went on board so is anybody that big and never look at it it's there and it's done very well very pleased with it well I'll just carry on doing this and we'll come back and again for all's gonna come back in a minute when it's done then they would take it from there don't know what hey we're back again and I'll teach most of the soil out you can see the big heap of it there that's the old racket down that I'll use before they all clay and you see all the roots are in this gray it's going quite well so what I'm going to do is just move on we pair of kitchen scissors you know again Nick from the kitchen don't otherwise and just chop off all the little all the roots that some you don't want you'd be quite aggressive with this because they do grow very well and it's mainly the the short spinding the ones that you want to cut off and once you've done that then it allows more growth to come through as we go through the seasons like I say it's beginning of March and airier in the UK cuz I live in England and we've had pretty free months summer this year so hopefully we'll have the slain through the year anyway um there we go just cut these long long bits off here and allow more room for growth because now I've got rid of the soil we can put the new soil in there and that will be nutrient free hopefully should because akadama is a place in Japan Japan and it seems a bit posh Don it there in Japan and it's the soil where they seem to grow very well don't know the history but I'm sure someone to tell me available like that you can see where it's shaking the poplar rasp on a square okay so just cut all these off or you don't want and when you've done that give it a good old root prove it more room to grow there's the wire and I shall take that off because we can reuse that there's the water take it off yeah my own terms that the basically pot through the holes in the bottom and I'll just do a little bit more of that might take a time to have a food look at it and see what we're doing but I'll come back in a minute and I'll show you what it looks like this basically what we want is a root ball okay just a root ball that's all we don't need a wall this Randy hasn't got to come off and use this tool by the way to just sort of go dance through between the roots and not the sword able to make the roots more exposed than they're easier to to trim you see the salt form at the bottom there oh just plain good fruit no big deal it'd be quite aggressive for this just make sure you don't try not to damage the roots too much you shouldn't you shouldn't damage it in the bigger roots because you can miss those see I've hit a few there look this is unfortunate I'm sure and these are quite prolific plants you know involved from most garden centers they're pretty cheap pick one up for four or five pounds and that's English money barley and then in a few years time like this one it will get nice and big but one little tip here if you want to make it grow bigger and get a nice thick trunk I actually took it to my mother's place and said they're just water it don't touch it don't cut it don't permit don't do anything I'll tell you what it came out and the the the actual tree was grown all over the places hopelessly overgrown so I trimmed it back but the actual main big branches here grew much thicker because they were feeding the plants and that summer to grow with they were they were using the nutrients and that to get up there and build the built the trunks in this case two trunks we've got a little one we ran at the side there which is a bonus I thought of leaving them leaving around there in a small site and contrast the lone tree but a couple of years with a treatment just want to it leave it and let it grow and grow and grow feed it went as witness back it will be brilliant okay well just trim all those roots off like I said and we'll go back go back to in a minute I think stay there okay so there we go I've not done a great deal of root pruning on it but if you look at the size of the tree compared with the pot now you see is much more room for soil it might take a few more roots off in a minute but there's much more room in there for the other roots to grow which give them plenty time to get settled in I'll just cut a few more loads off with you here this one of the little tools I use you can buy them in a bottle shop pretty good for taking the larger root cellar just this big one here take that one out as well even more sprout and what I use for the small roofs one of these bet you seen me guarding the certain that you can pick them up herself on Sophia whatever they used to give you a free pair when you bought them and they're pretty good for cutting the smaller stuff as well so there you go looks a bit aggressive doesn't that and the poor little privy fingers below it but it one you're actually doing this look good it's a mystery and that's what I've taken out of it it's quite a lot so hopefully in a minute we'll show you hate it I'll just have a quick cleanup and put everything back together again get this order I'll show you what that is paym to do it him to get the wiring and the mesh that we took out earlier and show you to repot it and it seems like a daunting task you know to actually pull the tree out the pot muck around with the roots chop them all off and then put it back in again but that's what bomb show is all about it's keeping a small root ball a large tree Bhansali actually means tree pot you don't put you know you grow trees in a pot a bit unusual and all the plants but anyway you want a tree is a tree and it's the pot and that's bonsai okay I'll be back in a minute and show you how to start to turn it over and get it back in the pot look really nice right here again and there's the the base of the root ball and you see it's a lot smaller than the pot now so let's let's think about putting it back in the pot alright so we've got the pot with two holes in the base and the piece of wire that we used before this piece here you can reuse that again this one so it's only elemental form copper coated aluminium looking the vial upon a saw shop this has been in there for probably two years or more so it's still still useable no no it's not broken well I see some new stuff then this new stuff is very thin this is mainly for making the tree shapely wants I'm gonna cut a long piece of this off two of those two months of long wire and do those approximately same length it didn't have to be don't cut too short cuz you don't perform with that yeah you'll see why in a minute and the first thing to do is get your core so you took out the bottom of the pot earlier you see the tool marks where the holes were and put that back in the pot over the actual holes in the base of the pot okay and then your trusty Ravel this is a stuff while using the fish tank you know you probably hear it farther away in the background that's what it is nine-foot fish tank full of fire lots of little fish just enough to cover the base not too much because you need more if a soil and roots to grow just enough to lift the soil above the base and let it drain away right then comes a tricky bit put the tree back in the pot like that okay there you go starting to pop a little bit of gravel there and you get your two bits of wire no because it's got such a small root ball you need to support the tree okay where you do that it's with the wire you do this two ways really you can either push it through the roots and try and find the hole underneath or you can wrap it around the root ball and do it that way because I've got a little bit of salt still left in that one just push that through there so it sticks out the bottom because it's thin water it'll cut somewhere over there yeah there you go so that's thread the needle ready and reasonably right put it around a big root I mean that's quite a large root there so just push that through there and then it will come down and hold that real tight now then you've got to push another one through the other side this is quite a large tree and I think it's larger compared with the others it's not the biggest one I've got got some really big ones in the going but I just make sure that I'm in the other tree I've done this morning earlier was much smaller than this I only put one more in there to hold it down almost awkward desk as a Boris bending so you want the really thick stuff but I've run out of that so I'm gonna do this this you see we get on with that should be okay I can't see complaining all right there we go you are through okay I'll just pull it down tight like that another two bits dangling at the bottom there's the other two then we've got find : the face just move a little bit of grabber around until you can see the whole show you this river there's a two holes in the base okay and then feed the wire through the hole in the bottom of the pot I said this is a difficult bit getting it fed through as one two before going in there and it's not going through there wouldn't be a second I'll just do this almost straight there right down the bottom move through tight and forints I'll just leave those at the bottom for the minute okay they are see sealant sticking out the base Sarila okay we'll leave that for now all right that will keep the tree solid in the pot okay if you want to move it around if you want the tree on one side of the pot to contrast your ornaments notice the time to do it I like my little Chinese men there they're smoking their pipes then a babe there and they look as if you're sitting under the tree in the garden or you can I'm over there wherever you like it's up to you that is your that is your choice but you put the tree where you want it in the pot so it actually grows that way it was another root if you know any look worried sticking up you think I'm gonna poke through the soil just push them down that the way to get some more soil and this is the akadama this is the play when you get it it'll be bone dry and I do mean bones riders there's no moisture in it that's all it's got a lot of Haley with it and it's quite hard substance so just pour all that in there make sure you get it in there any roots as well you're not want any voids in that at all so make sure you you know you booties move the root tease the roots arraigned in there and then they will find their own place later on when it starts to grow in the new year and right so it's all really teasing it through the roots and getting it down into the base underneath underneath natural 3 something try and keep it as level as you can I know we don't in nature nothing is absolutely level there's no such thing as a straight line in nature we all know that so if the trees a little bit wobbly one side but too much because it adds the character why in Bonsall have a funny-shaped trees and I've saw we've seen it I'm sure you've seen some really weird ones and shops and I've granted some really weird ones in the old days and what I wanted to do was bend Bend they are bend the branches and and they all come at will bent and twisted they absolutely beautiful the idea is to get a sort of net through they possibly can and really confined to the natural size of the tree in relation to the vendors and the twists in the natural branches so that's something you want to be a little bit easier there's something else I want to show you is this I think in America they call it lazy susans it's really a cake stand you just earned only this was all covered in gunk and dirt and that because from the trees no it's a good idea to get those in the tree and then you can turn the tree and get everything evenly spaced as you go along it seems silly doing it on the square off the first of the bar and just keep pushing it around and then what I want to try and do is build it up a little bit just to build their horror so it's level with the base of the pot here but actually grows up in a mound yeah so that will help the tree look much better and just stuck in the ground just growing you know in doesn't garden the actual pot is part of the of the display if you like of your actual bomb soy-free like I said Balan saw is-3 and pot as a syringe apparently never been there we south love to go I'm sure if you want to give me some money I can afford the air ticket but don't they that's because in some way what you all have to go there you go man I'll just tease that in and I'll come back in a second and I'll show you what it looks like when Isis when it's finished off okay don't go away here we go again okay so there you go our souls in place and if I turn it round you can see it's fairly even all the way around and I like to leave little bits in the corner no advantage to the square part is you've got your little corners there where you can push it down and then the water drains away much easier I think you see the two in the back rain there look just depressed it and never turn the other quarters I've done this too high here and I'm still still burnin dry as you can see when you put the water in there you'll see the paper come up and it will soak up quite a lot of water and when it's done one thing I will say and I'll probably say it again as well when you've done this and you've actually repotted to bonsai do not feed it for at least two weeks at least two weeks because it needs to establish and the roots need to repair their self small the cutting there's been cut quite a bit off of it and then it should send in quite nice and just give it a live feed once every two weeks three weeks something like that and it should survive quite well in a minute I'm going to show you how to do the top Hey - actually / in the top which is very simple matter this one needs doing badly I've done it for a long time so we'll have a look at that number now okay stay there right before we go into the mmm top trimming just show you how I'm gonna anchor the tree to the actual pot these are just sticks you can buy these in any garden center they're just I don't know why they're green they're made of green but it's just like no bamboo sticks you stick them in your pot plant the two bits of wire that's sticking out the bottom I'll show you it's quite easy really with the wire that comes at the bottom it's like that okay then it's important if that comes out the hole at the base of your pot what you want to do is not wine them together like that because you're actually pool and you won't get the pull on it so what you need to do is put your stick between the two little bits of wire I wanna trained with the stick like that so effectively it looked like that so you're winding the wire around and pulling the stick up to the base of the pot which will get a better grip on the on the tree itself okay can you see that so so nice like one it rained like that don't if it's unfocused actually wine it rained put the stick on the top and then continue to wind it rain like that and that will pull the wire down as you can see that until it actually grips but you just want to pull down on the roots to keep it nice and stable alright if you try and do it the other way all you're doing is wind it up into the base of the pot and that's no good at all really cuz it's not it's not pulling on anything and you need to pull on a stick underneath the whole of the bottom of the pot just thought I mentioned that it's because I'm not using the thicker wire which is much easier you just pull it through and just bend a train or bend it I mean this a couple years always been in there for years and just bend it over like that and then I'll stay there for as long as you want it mm-hmm right I think now what would do is actually water it and then we'll go on to the the trim on the top I'll just show you what it looks like when you're watering it so I just forget water will give it give it a good seed oh no sorry don't feed it two weeks three weeks then you can feed it don't just give it good watering now I'll show you what it's like okay all right here we go I'm gonna pull the halter on now and you can probably see the payloader just coming up it looks like steam and looks like a chemical reaction I don't know if you can see there but it is actually powder come in to the surface there we are gonna see more of it now okay as you water in it will take quite a lot of water like this set because it's bone-dry when you get it the reason for that is I assume they don't want the damp getting in there to produce bacteria and all the rest of the nasty stuff that it seems to grow in water when you don't want it to and it might be a sterilizing effect as well bringing us stuff into our country which is very full problem but that's another story and make sure it is really research at this point I'm using rainwater here you don't need anything in it so I prefer running water to tap water cuz the new okay we got some got chlorine and stuff like that in there which is not really good for berries and rainwater is pure as you know and it's not gonna do any harm at all and just gets a nice and moist okay all right there he's soaking up the water I've put a bait two litres through it and drained out in the bottom of the tray here and just topped it up with another liter later on why did that earlier and all right let's um get her on the old coat spinner all the lazy susan and see what we can do to the top and see we can prune that all right here's the top of the plant and you see the growth there the new growth of the leaves and the little black piece under sorry brain piece underneath what I do is just snip it off there it's more for it to grow and just leave a leaf on there if you want it to grow a bit thicker and just slip it through each little leaf and throw this very time-consuming but well worth it and there's a bit you take off off the top okay then that's where your flowers have come out and that does really look beautiful when it's in growth it's a lot to do a lot to do as you can see there's plenty of leads on there and it's gonna look a lot a bit bare to start with we've done the roots Rick pruned it and they were going to trim the top okay and I'll come back in a second and show you what it looks like when it's done all right there it is Chinese haircut a couple of bits off and trimmed it right the way down I know it looks like a twig at the moment but some it will grow back I've left a few little leaves on there as you can see from there these leaves will take the light and help it to grow this is a little tree growing on the side of it and all we need to do now is put a little Chinese men back on now so they can smoke their pipes in the garden and make a little dent for them there they go and there it is hope you like it and thanks very much for watching I do appreciate you staying to the end and there it is zoom in a little bit it looks like okay thanks very much for watching if you want to subscribe please do they're not going to doing lots of various different videos I do just about anything really anything that I think is going to help people and I thought what I was doing my little tree I would show you how it's done I'm not going to do this one no for a couple of years and it's quite happy there and it's an indoor plant this one it's IRISA it's actually an indoor plant in in in England because the weather I saw in the winter can be very very cold so it'll probably kill it off but in the winter bring it in but in the summer by all means take it outside and let it have some nice sunshine and so on and most of the other ones I've got a Chinese arms bases things like that and they will get the same treatment and they seem to thrive I've got one create there which I know for a fact it's base 70 years old I bought it when it was 50 years old and I've had it for 20 years so working it for yourself but nearing go and not go say thanks for watching and Cheers hope for a lovely summer and see you all guys soon in another video I don't know what it's gonna be but there was something soon okay thanks to subscribing and watching take care see you soon bye bye
