Please explain how to trim great granny blocks from lori holt's great granny squared book

hi I'm Laurie holt from being my bonnet and I'm going to show you how to square up my great-granny block that's in my great-granny squared book for this block it's the 12 and a half inch size so I use the creative grid square it up and fussy cut ruler okay so here we have the block before it squared up and what I do is I have my block on my mat nice and flat and I lay my ruler right on top and Center it up first I start in the very center and try to line it up with the squares and along this line I move the ruler along this line so that it's centered along these seams and then I check this line and adjust this line across here just move it so that it's the best and then I look around and check and make sure that there's enough fabric so that I don't cut anything off and then when it's all centered I put my hand right down in the center trim one side and then I can turn it now I've got this straight line here to follow I just ignore the lines on the mat I'm just looking at the ruler then I can turn it this way and if I pull it a little bit on angle like this have these two lines already cut square I can cut both of these at the same time without having to move the block pick it off and I have a perfectly square block ready to go under the quilt you can see that there is not a quarter inch like the traditional album block is it flows there's about a half inch seam so when you go to sew your blocks together it kind of floats in the middle of the point you don't have to worry about running over your points okay so thanks for watching I hope you enjoy and have fun making your great granny blocks and remember leave no square behind
