hello youtubers my name is Shane wash from County Kerry Ireland and welcome to my channel this is a brief video on two major pests that do a lot of damage to your cacti and soften collection and these are mealy bugs and red spider much meet with mealy bugs it's pretty easy to see the damage and it's quite easy to see that the actual pests which red spider mites is not so easy and Juji today and damage is done before you actually see the pest so with these plants here I'll show you what the damage with mealy bugs this what happens this is a particular area and these have been attacked by many bugs and you can see the damage that it causes by usually the mealy bugs go into the little corners and little crevices of the of the plant and what happens then the leaves drop and they do an awful lot damage these hopefully will pull through I've already sprayed them so I think I've got rid of the problem hopefully this is a hello and since black gem and again you can see the damage and I'll just showed up to the camera here the damage was it's already done and actually what happens and you get secondary rot which then will finish off the plant and you can see they're actually some of the little mini box there and see it I'll show you up here with this one here which is crassula column I'll just show you where they again mini box you can see the meter box there now I haven't treated this one so up I was treated after the video you can see that what the middie bug is doing obvious in the SAP and also you can see there have droplets of honeydew which is a excretes and this then the honey you it tracks a mold which again impedes photosynthesis in the plant if it's very very bad with me debug it does pay to look at your plans every day or once twice a week and keep populations down now you can you can use sprays which I will show you now such as Bob clear electro which is a systemic spray and then two different organic type sprays the more in the middle which is bare which I've been using good for years which makes enough results but you wish especially space especially midi bugs and spider mite you have to spray obviously when you see d the pests you spray them and then ten days later to spray them again because any larvae are on hatched eggs usually it takes about ten days for them to hatch out and then you'll have to spray again new darf this is a spray from germany and the organic spray had mixed results with us but again a lot of pests especially mealy bugs and red spider I can guess your resistance if you use the same spray so it's probably go to maybe use different sprays this one I've used in this year which is popular with the systemic and the systemic goes on working because the plant takes it up so that they're the spray is to use if you really have a bad infestation now obviously with something with especially with the meaty bugs if you see one tooth and I wouldn't bother spraying I'd use it maybe two picker a pin to the kilim respire mice again is quite troublesome pests and this is what happens you see that they they go for the growing tips of the plant you can see here the damage that is done to this agent upses see here it's only actually on to two sections now this plant will lab I'll grow this damage but I usually find which red spider much I don't see it during the growing season but it seems to happen usually in on January February and what when you see the damage because I bring my plants in over the winter so they're here they're everywhere because obviously in a greenhouse you're checking every day but you wouldn't be checking every day in in different rooms so basically what you should do and what I will be doing this year after the growing season that was I'll be spraying with a systemic pesticide before the growing season ceases and maybe again in around March April when the plants start waking up and growing again so that's damage done which red spider mite on a cactus on a succulent sausage it this die so if the plant takes on a kind of a yellowy sickly color to it to its leaves and I have this plant about 15 years this is the first time ever it's got any pests such as red spider mice and it's funny with this pests such a red spider mite it may affect one plant and it won't touch any other plant whereas with the mealy bugs if you have it on one plant you're going to get it on another so
