Please explain how to make a leather wristband part 1. for rocking. viking style.

hello its Ryan Martin music I'm working on this leather wristband and I'm going to take you through the next steps what I'm doing hopefully you'll get a kick out of it so and you'll see what's involved into actually making one of these things and how tedious and time-consuming it can be which is why you can't buy one from me for like 20 bucks sorry it's a lot of work check it out so here's my leather you can see this is the two-sided this is the top side where we're gonna do the carving in the dying and already cut it out of a big sheet next step is to case it which what that means is I got a damp sponge and I've got a wet the leather so pretty easy just get a sponge I'm gonna get it wet and you'll see it's starting to change colors what that allows us to do is get trace out the pattern so the weather has to be a little bit soft you want to be too soft but it's got to be a little bit soft so I'm gonna let that sit for a minute or two let it soak in all that moisture and then we're going to start tracing our pattern alright now that the leather is wet the next step is I've got my tracing my pattern I'm going to use and yeah get it positioned alright I got it in position now so this little stylus that I'm going to use and trace over my design into the leather it's got this little tip and it's going to transfer a little groove onto the leather of that design that we're going to come back later and carve with a swivel knife so here we go ah one line this is tedious it's gonna take a while you arms getting tired okay I might pause the camera for a moment all right so here's what it looks like with this basically kind of traced into the leather the little it's almost like a ballpoint pen but there's no ink it's just a little tracing tool we're going to go ahead and cut through all those lines with the swivel knife good times if you can't tell we've decided to go with a Nordic Viking themed wrist band which I'm pretty excited about because I haven't done a carved and tooled hand tool wristband in a while so pretty excited problem is I gonna want to keep it for myself it can already tell but um here's an example the one that's all carved and stamped and hand dyed this is one of my favorites that I wear all the time I'll show you real quick a couple my other ones this one's one of my favorites got some rivets in it it's a it's worn out by now I've had it for several years I got some smaller ones like that one here's some gladiator zakk wylde kind of wristbands I made actually buckle like this instead of the snaps buckles are a pain in the butt to make though here's one that I'm quite fond of buckles this is for my wife it's my wife Angeles for Steve here's another one yeah carving nuts just punching hardware something well it is kind of a big deal but punching in hardware is not crazy but this this is tedious so why not do it very often only for warriors all righty-roo I don't know if you can see this I've not really ever tried to video tape this part of the process so it might be kind of hard to see I think my hands are going to be in the way but we'll see what happens all right swivel knife intelligent Auto I don't think so all right well anyways here we go let's start here do any more light you you ah yes look at some of these cuts me it's gonna take me a while longer I'm gonna go ahead and save some battery power and memory and come back to you when this is all cut all righty there I've got most of the cuts made now and the leather I took a little bit of time the little carving knife all right so the next step is to begin the tooling process and I'll see if I want to add anything else to this I'm not sure all right back at you soon all right got my stamping paraphernalia in order and it's time to get started all the carving part done this is the fun part that takes quite a while to do all right I got a text message from Zach oil and robert baker simultaneously Robert Bakker knows who I am I'm famous his accident me awesome there's my buddy Zach epic beard epic shredder Zach is the man Zach's the guy who introduced me to Jeff Lewis therefore he rocks all right let's get back to the stamping awesome I did this all the time I probably faster at it but I don't do this all the time I do Dario rep it's my day off I'm carving a leather and people are texting me okay back to the leather there's probably some leather crafters watching this who are mocking my technique that's okay everybody has their own technique most important thing just like anything else that's important thing is just to get started you get started doing something you like or interested in the more you do it the better you get whether it's making YouTube videos playing guitar or carving leather text it okay good gosh I'm lucky to have some awesome friends thanks to the internet some awesome guitar dudes all right sorry I can't see that alright so I'm going to get back to get back to this I'll show you some close ups in a minute there's what I'm doing it's going to have some depth to it everywhere there's a little hammer mark there so see you in a few all right I switched beveling tool and I had to go back around the Allen come on there we go the outline again so let's give it at a kind of a three-d you know the main part of this little Nordic infinity dragoness a raise so yeah still working at just that part of it so anyways is this time consuming as crap to make it looks awesome doesn't it hey here we are well I had a little bit of a setback see the problem is I was doing the wrong one once I go on I you know I wrapped it around to see what it would look like as a wristband and I realized that's awful small and so what it happened was I had a bunch of blanks blanks sitting there and I grabbed the wrong one by accident so that was fun wasted a little bit of time so I had to start over on one that's the right size and the right measurement so more tracing more cutting with the swivel knife more tooling and stamping with the stamping tools and now I'm adding a little bit more stuff to it so good times all right talk to you soon all right I've got the little dragon done pretty much now I'm just kind of carving out some stuff on the sides through there's just the cuts this will knife and now I'm coming in with the stamps and giving some bevels this helps gives it a little bit of depth my hammers crapped out on me if you saw my guitar strap making video that's when this thing broke so it's kind of a pain it's not staying like it's supposed to so leather oh crap is : well I didn't video it but got some rune edge runes carved in there and just touching up some of the some of the bevels some of the stamps give it a little bit more depth and a couple of places before I start before start dyeing probably won't diet until tomorrow it's just getting kind of late here you give us a little more scales little more scaly in some spots and threat to the gym here we are that's what I want that's it okay cool I will probably continue on with the dyeing next it's time to die
