Please explain how to make leather cross earrings | nik scott

hey ah welcome back to DIY Thursday today I want to show you how to make these super simple ultra fashionable and just downright awesome jumbo cross earrings with leather fabrics stay tuned so complete this project you're going to need some scissors some round nose jewelry pliers a leather puncher some type of fabric glue something to write with faux leather or leather fabric and some earring hooks okay now this step is optional but I wanted to see how big that urine was going to be plus I am not that good at freehand drawing so I made myself a template for my earrings now I'm doing this tracing my template but if you don't have a template all you have to do is freehand draw your cross however big or small you want on the back of your faux leather fabric I did this on four pieces of fabric now I try to do the accordion fold to cut down on how many times I have to draw and cut but it ended up being a mess so for me this was just easier so you're probably wondering why you need four crosses well I want my earrings to have a leather look on both sides of the earring so I'm going to use two of these crosses or each of my earrings doubling up on your fabric gives your earrings a sturdier look and to me it just looks better than having just a flimsy piece of material flopping around on a hook in your ear I've just used my fabric glue to bond two crosses together for each earring now pay attention while you're doing this because you want to make sure that you're gluing both of the back sides to the fabric together I let my crosses dry overnight and the next day I use my scissors to even up the material where my crosses didn't line up exactly a leather puncher has different size little cone things so that you can have various sizes of holes punched in your leather so I'm just turning mine to the smallest hole to be punched at the top of my cross because I'm about to turn these bad boys into some fierce earrings I use a straightened out paperclip to kind of mark where I want it to punch my hole you want to make your hole near the top but not so close to the edge that you punched off of the cross now just punch some holes at the top of your earrings the last step of this project is to attach the hook to your earring you're going to use your round nosed needle pliers to open and close the hook so that you can attach it to the leather that really was the last step of this project but these earrings are supposed to be dangly so if you find that your earring isn't moving as much as it should it's most likely because you have too much leather that's stuffed in that little hoop of your hook so all you have to do is detach your hook and cut a little bit of that leather off of the top of your cross and a bend reattach your hook and that's it y'all if you try this or any of my other DIY projects be sure to share a picture with me on Instagram Facebook and Twitter and tune in every other Thursday for another simple DIY tutorial until next time y'all peace
