this is Heidi with a knitting video tutorial for you this video is great for beginners because it teaches you how to work the garter stitch aka the first stitch you ever learn when you're learning to knit on my needle here I have eight stitches of garter stitch and garter stitch is really simple it's the first stitch you get to know in knitting and it involves knitting across each row when worked flat so you'll knit across one row turn your work and then knit across the next one and then the result is these really lovely bumps let me show you how to do it so you have the stitches on your non-dominant hand needle and with your dominant hand needle you cross the needles forming an X going through the front loop of your work so we've got the X formed with the left hand non-dominant needle on top the right-hand dominant needle on the bottom then we wrap the yarn going toward ourselves and around and pull the yarn through so just a basic knit stitch then sweep it off the end again form your X working through the front of the loop with the right hand needle at the back wrap your yarn pull it through swing it off and you'll repeat that process all the way down your needle like so and the last one of the row now all of our stitches are on our right hand needle and we're ready to work the next row turning your needle like you would turn the page of a book put the stitches needle in your non-dominant hand grab your naked needle and begin knitting across once again so with garter stitch as you work these really nice bumps that look like purl bumps form every time you work a lot of people really like garter stitch because it's nice and squishy and it works really great in beginner knitting projects of course but also in things like baby blankets and sweaters
