Please explain how to age galvanized metal

hey guys I'm excited to be here today we've survived vintage whites my flowers that I made on my last video looked amazing if you didn't see the final result be sure to check out my Instagram account I have lots of pictures of my backdrop I'm ready to get back into DIY and for my next show which is the reclaim ologist show on October 15th I'll post a link below it'll be me and 49 of my favorite vendors and Lee Hyatt Thanksgiving Point okay so to get started today we're going to take this brand new bucket that I got at the feed store and we're going to be turning it to this old bucket and I'm going to be doing a little stenciling on it so the new bucket doesn't need to be anything fancy galvanized is fine usually you can get this pretty inexpensive I think this was in about a 3/4 dollar range and you're going to need just a few products so you need your bucket a pair of gloves toilet bowl cleaner and steel wool I would think most of these things you would have in your home I didn't have to go out and buy any of this is just stuff I have in my regular cleaning supplies so I've been conducting a lot of science experiments trying to figure out what the easiest most simple way to age a bucket was and this is the way I did it I tried all kinds of things like vinegar and peroxide and I even tried TSP but this really worked the best and the quickest so I figured that's how I would show you so take my steel wool and I'm going to go over my entire bucket just dulling the surface and removing anything on it that might prohibit the toilet bowl cleaner from reacting just go lightly all over this is the course is still wool there is I bet you could probably use any but this is what I'm where you in let me get the bottom because we're going to age that too go ahead and go over the handle and then okay now we're going to go outside for step two step two we're going to add our toilet bowl cleaner this is just my Lysol I've also heard the zip works really well you can also use it with a bleach cleaner I find that it doesn't really matter just slice it's a really good toilet bowl cleaner so I'm going to start with the inside and squirt it around and it reacts almost immediately you can see it going to town I've got my little scrub brush you could also use a sponge okay guys after it's been sitting about four hours you're going to take your steel wool and go back over without removing the product you're going to go back over it and just cover the entire thing really rub it in and then after you've done this and gone over everything you're going to let it sit another about thirty minutes and then rinse it off and I'll show you how to stencil it so I used my vinyl cutter and I cut out this stencil I like using vinyl on objects like this because it sticks really well you don't have a vinyl machine you could go on Etsy and get some stencils or you could do the regular stencil and use spray on adhesive and then tape it all the way around so I'm going to be using my fairy chalk mother and best black and my stenciling brush here and I'm just going to make some nice up-and-down movements you don't want to go side to side because you don't want to get it into your stencil and then get splotchy lines so I'm going to go ahead and remove my stencil okay guys now this is all finished I'm going to go ahead and distress my paint a little just to age it just using my sanding block to go over it okay guys I just want to show you the difference between a brand new bucket and our toilet bowl cleaner method of aging this if you want it to be aged even more you can just leave that toilet bowl cleaner on there even longer and it'll just age more you can also try soaking it in vinegar overnight that also helps I hope this gives you a good idea of how to age all your shiny metal now go out there and age all the things be sure to give me a thumbs up and subscribe to Junior a vintage for more DIY
