Please explain how to set up mountain horned lizards

what's up guys it's me again Alan here and I'm going to show you how to spend a little time I don't know if you guys are too competitive disguise but these guys are called mountain farm lenders they usually come from a Southeast Asia there's multiple subspecies of these guys um you can set them all up the same way so I'm gonna go just go through step by step and show you how to set this guy up for right now I'm gonna let this guy chill this little plant right here because that's where they like to hang out a little secure areas anyways right here I got a Exo Terra 24 1824 this is a good size for a mountain one lizard you can go bigger if you want it like a lot of space these guys usually like to hang up in higher areas you know gives you can say there are boreal um so alright what we're gonna do I'm gonna go ahead and come around over here as you can see right now I have my pump set up already kind of lit ahead because you guys don't want to see me doing that I got my thermometer going on over here I just so I got our pump right here for our exoteric waterfall we're gonna be putting up in a little bit and we have our thermometer all put in the back teeth behind the background because not that hard but I'd rather just have it done before we have to eat all right we did before I want to lay down my some people use hydro balls right now I'm going to bio drink made by XO Terra the reason I like using this and I just can't find out you for me as a as you can see right here these are all lava rocks are not perfectly round so they won't move around too much they can actually interlock and you can make no more hills and vinegarette over these bags over right now coming down alright guys so now I'm going to go ahead and set my called pilot ring basically what this is for is to separate your dirt and your hydro balls and so it doesn't you know mix into the bottom part of your bio drain I guess we easy now if this works really good if you're doing waterfall sections like homemade waterfall sections keep the dirt from getting into your pump so it's a very good idea this one's already pre-cut to the exact same size that I'm already eating which is that 24 18 24 so what I'm going to do and when late just lay it down nice and flat you know some nothing gets mixed in and it was alright so uh-huh as a previous video you saw me you before I'm gonna lay down on my dirt and remember this stuff looks fairly dry so then your foot again we're gonna drench it in water so I am gonna use this ficus tree these Mountain Warren lizards really like a lot of plants a lot of foliage they like to be feel secure like no one can see them even though we can it's kind of like wearing sunglasses when you don't want people to look at you it's the same concept it's a stress reliever and help them out it's a bit of light out and it makes it more naturalistic and it makes it feel more like home so get an idea of what I want to do so I just added a little bit more daring to make the back part a little bit higher and now I'm going to go ahead now I'm going to set my my water pump right not necessarily in the center but a little bit more to drive just because I don't have a lot of cable to work with and you remember you still need to plug it into the back of part of the law so give it enough space to you know work with so what I'm doing right now guys I'm making this section basically flaps for the waterfall because this is going to stay standstill here for most of the time do you want to make sure that your face is solid because it's not it's going to be moving around a lot making it super solid now I'm going to go ahead and throw some more class when you get plots it might get some plants that are kind of dying on the side you can just pull out all the dead ones you know just like Garner you've ever done gardening before I have because it's in my nature so I'm not a hundred percent sure of what these plants what the actual name of this plant is the spider plain spider kind of cool i I don't know my plants - well what I thought gardening was the new nature not putting it together isn't my nature and cutting it and getting paid for it as a manager supporting for my family anyways this plant the spider client right here are awesome when you're doing it around waterfall sections water dishes gives it that like Lagoon appearance I guess you know you're a good looking there's all these cool when it's coming out anyway I'm gonna put one there I'm gonna put a shorter one over here I like doing shorter plants usually up front because you don't want it big that pot in the front and taking the whole credit of your bite area there's one way another one I'm going to put this leather taller one that's this spider plant and as you can see I'm putting all the taller plants in the background now I'm going to leave my front section open so when your homies and stuff come over and check out your new mountain or lizard they have something to look at h2o that's good enough for you it's good enough for the lizard it that's good enough for me you remember go to school and I drink it out of the water consciously no actually no I don't think my school had a waterfall to drink that out a waterfall water five six seven eight thirsty so we've got all these plants here for the lizards to hide behind and the that waterfall does look really really neat so they can run down and drink out of it if they so desire okay so Mountain War lizards like some chameleons did not see sitting water if you show them addition water and you set it down they will not recognize it as I'm supposed to drink that so a good idea is to have a source of moving flowing water like a waterfall a drip system as well into the water to create ripples playing said we're using a waterfall because it looks way cooler anyways so right now I'm just making sure that all my plans are in there nice and solid so I thought so I thought my homie was the boy and then apparently she's a female so she told me that she needs some more coloring she doesn't like just green so I'm going to go ahead and add a pink plastic eye like your grandmother's bromeliads cool little bromelia these are awesome plants of very beautiful and we like to fold water in there for the Frog keepers if you're out there good plan Tom anyways I'm gonna add this plateau here and make it a little bit more lift it throw that in there right right in the lentil up alright so what I like to do is you know let you see I like to tell the plants in there first and take it step by step and Beyond comes out now I'm gonna go ahead and put some wood in there okay okay you got a couple of options of wood and you know these two I'm going to start with this poor flap that zoom in produces we sell so what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a little I don't know how you would say like a little nail type thing right here give it that little kind of effect of a canyon you know you got a higher spot up here and then you have the lower sword up here put that there make it look pretty cool take this sound blasted piece of wood and just kind of look around and see where you want to lay it see what looks best you're gonna want to make sure that you provide most of the cage is gonna stay pretty cool but you're gonna want to provide a higher area for the lizard to climb up and bathroom if it wants they don't always but it's important that they have the option if they so desire I want to go back and get it this piece of wood because this is not working so I got two pieces of wood here something a little bit more to work with I'm just gonna work out perfect all right you can't see the wood a lot in here right now but when you're done with your vivarium know that you're more than welcome you are allowed to trim the plant that is okay so but this is more so for the benefit of the mountain horn lizard it's gonna find that piece of wood back there it is gonna climb it it's gonna use it and then it's more something for you there's another truck piece of wood up here kind of make it look a little cooler so right down the center look alright guys I'm gonna go ahead and take some more water okay kind of clean it up a little bit it's grade make sure the nice solid watering so you can take a look at it and come here you see in there looks pretty cool smells pretty fresh you got all this dirt right in here that's still nice we need to need to do something with it so I'm gonna go ahead and lay some moss so you could always back you know rewind on your YouTube clip and see the before and after put it right here I really like this mouse called frog boss and I'm gonna use for mountain horn my little buddy is still hanging out here in the tree shy oh sorry she's shy and right now what she wants me to show her how it's looking because she's initially gonna live in there do you like it alright so letting down its moss these animals are really cool there's actually those are one of my first lizards I've ever had ever ever ever before bearded dragon so we have done vivarium for a mountain horn lizard from Southeast Asian yet Southeast Asia this is pretty much it I'm gonna clean it up I'm gonna wipe it down I'm gonna put a little bit more water on that dried-up frog moss probably gonna clip a couple of these plants just to make it look a little better other than that conch out over here take it beautiful and I love here I in chancha we love turtles we really do lizard do you like it want hold it what do you think of that lizard pretty cool yeah yeah sure clothes oh it makes me kind of nervous please nice though right yeah okay so we're using a 24 inch that's such a compact to our input and actually use two hips length in this part on this side which is where the mountains are is going to be climbing up and it looks for the back area I've got the Exo Terra uva/uvb 100 which it used to call the exit era 5.0 compact lesson but now they've actually switched it to a little bit more equitable permit basically it will not say I don't but an easier to understand measurement with the 100 is kind of an arbitrary measurement of the amount of light coming out basically though this is more of a tropical spectrum of light and then on the back of the door and also on EXO Tara's website you can actually look out more information on the bulbs why they've got the different spectrums why they've got the new numbers on them all that kind of stuff to help you kind of get a better idea but the really neat thing that they've been doing is they're kind of adapting their packaging and they're - were easily reflect what the light bulbs do so for the number of losers to properly process their calcium vitamin d3 all that kind of stuff we've got the the tropical UVB producing bulbs here and then on this side I've actually got their new bolts which are really neat they're called reptile vision boxes but it also puts out the full range of light that the reptile can see because they basically reptiles have different cones and different rods and different ways of seeing than we do so this actually emits a wider range of light than just visible light so basic it doe not only display them really well so your animal looks prettier it'll display the bottom for lizards gorgeously I make their their skin really have that iridescent sheen what they usually do but it also emits a wider range of vacancy so they can see and actually get more colors that's more like their natural environment so for an animal like about my lizard which the vast majority of them are long-term cactus which means that originally they came from the while putting that kind of a light on there will help ease their transition into captivity and help them adapt better to it your cactus home environment again though you just still need you to be light at least on one part of the cage preferably close to where their heat light is so that way they can be in warm and giving their UV at the same time it's really important for the way that their skin working in processing vitamin D agree lastly for the basking area mountain horned lizards don't need it super hot so if your house is already in the 80s which here in Southern California it all fit is you don't need even a 50 while you can go as low as a 25 watt basking but for now for the setup I used an exoteric 50 watt daylight back schemes pull basically it's gonna create a little area right over where that piece of wood is the alphadon it'll create a little basking area that's going to be warm enough that they can climb up and seek out that higher temperature if they so desire and lastly we've got a little uh micrometer thermometer here with the nice thing about the exoteric hoods new thermometers and everything is that they all fit together and they look really neat and tidy so this one measures the real max the humidity and temperature ranges here in the cage it's got the little button here so you can check it all out the cage is actually really really warm we've got the light shining here so it's a little bit seems a little bit warmer than and I've got everything here plugged into the Zilla timer power center or the digital power center it's got these dark ones here for nighttime heat if you are in a cooler area of the country and your house is getting down into the 60s and 50s at night was Vishnu winter don't want a night any people you're plugging into there I've got both of these lights these data type like plunge into a yellow which is the daytime and then here on these four these four plugs run all the time so our waterfall is plugged into that to keep it running all the time for you these power strips are pretty much my favorite thing ever again as most of you know I've got animals at home this is perfect if you set up missile a cage like this this makes your life so much easier you setting it up and maintaining it so pretty much this setup this is an awesome way to maintain that bruisers talent keptin raised her lizards out remember we actually read them into it I've had I patched some babies yeah so he done so well in keeping and maintaining him that he was able to catch offspring in a cage like this I don't think he actually asked babies in the cage incubated um but they laid eggs they think I came out so this is an awesome way to set amount Allah knows what he's talking about with these things he's kept it for a while and he sets them up all the time here at the story so this is just one way to do it I would highly recommend it these little lights you're probably gonna want and that's it literally every single item you see here in this cage on top lighting all of it you can order on our website at wwlp.com and there you have it that's how I set up
