hi I'm janae with Janae's tropicals in st. Petersburg Florida and I'm here to demonstrate how to plant a grapefruit tree you'll need a few things to get started such as a stake with tight tape to secure your tree after it's planted when you dig the hole you'll need a really good compost such as mushroom compost or composted cow manure to mix into the soil and after the tree is completely planted you'll need to water it in with a root stimulator and this will ensure a healthy happy tree with lots of good growth it's very important to pick a sunny very well-drained area for your grapefruit tree then the first step is to dig a hole about half a size larger than the container of the tree then the next step would be to work in your compost I've pre-mixed a bucket of mushroom compost and composted manure take your shovel mix it in really well you never want to put a tree on a big clump of manure so be sure and mix it and then the next step would be to take your tree dry and center it in the hole make sure that the tree is only as deep as what you saw in the container no deeper the graph should be well above the ground and then put a little bit of the original earth back into the hole and also you wanna you want to mix it up with the composted manure so right now I'm filling the base of the tree in with a composted manure and mushroom mix which has tons of wonderful nutrients in it I'm packing the soil and tightly around the root ball because you have to make sure that you do not have any air pockets because air pockets can dry sections of your root ball out and that will really damage your tree and now I'm filling in the rest of the hole with the original earth which is great it contains a lot of sand and it helps for good drainage then pack it in nice and tight if your soil tends to drain poorly one trick you could do is set your tree just a little high for better drainage but the main thing just make sure your graft is above the ground and your tree will live a happy life the last and final step is adding the root stimulator after the tree is completely planted and the soil is packed in nice and tight mix up a gallon of the root stimulator and water it into the root ball and this is actually good to do probably for the next three weeks and the tree will get off to a happy healthy start thank you for watching the demonstration on how to plant a grapefruit tree I'm Jen a with Janae's tropicals thank you
