Please explain how to fix a sagging gate...part 2

today what do you suppose we're gonna talk about the dreaded sagging gait if you want to know how I fixed this gait stick around found a little 1x4 in the garage and I found this beep add to whatever I find a knee pad I'll use that I left mine back in Maui I'm just gonna make some shims I'm just gonna make it about 7/8 of an inch measured over three and a half I got to connect those lines just use my saw this saw is years old gets this little back saw miter box saw all I got today less than 10 bucks up with that and the miter box and I'm just gonna use that I'm just using whatever I have to make this work so can you okay I'm just gonna cut this cut that off that's gonna be my shrimps okay I'm gonna cut to that way ah did you catch that I cut the first one over here and I couldn't cut that one that's easily that's flipping it over then remarking it so that's what I did almost done right in here here's my two shims okay you want to make sure you're going with the green you won't you don't want to cross cut because this is stronger going with the grain okay so I'm just gonna take this pledge that down in there start beating on that okay it's not gonna go in all the way I want it to give it enough it's like a tap on there and then I'll cut it off with my trusty back so let's do it let's get in there and get this done all that works sweet - now you know I haven't haven't put the shims in yet but yeah like that just with my my little metal chisel thing down there remember okay I'm gonna put the first shim to the far left you know then I could hopefully wedge that out of there and put the other one right where that pin is oh yeah time of reckoning so far everything's gone like clockwork hopefully this is gonna work okay that down in there now maybe I can put this get this out of here I'll get it back and forth there now other Shemin right there I think that's all I want to go for right now then I'm going to close the gate check it all out if I have to I can push that in further what a nice day yeah looks pretty good I think I might have gone up just a hair that's okay I don't think I want to make it any looser than that because if anything over time eventually this fence or this gate could slightly sag and I don't want to have the same problem again okay so I'm gonna look on the back side see what I can do about that little latch let's see what's going on here I want you to see what I'm seeing okay see there the end of this is hitting the edge right there it's locking but I wish it was out just a hair further see that what am I gonna do about that that's I want it to go just like that now do I want it that's what those shims anymore I don't think I do I don't think I want to make them any smaller okay and what I could do is take those screws out right there and move that arm over a little bit you see those screws they're all stripped out they're messed up it's even it's even kind of slightly loose it looks like they've had different issues here hasn't it it's another key to see if the gate has been having other problems in the past and it has look at that nice gap there now I don't think I really want to move those shims any okay don't think so I'm gonna leave that there and figure out what to do with that maybe I can get those screws out of there and find some other ones I found some different screws and I only put one screw in there first to check it out before I put the other screw because worst case scenario if you mess up or something then you can readjust it by putting the other screw in first okay so let's see how it works so sweet yes okay nice that's what I like to see a gay dude all right time for me to put the other screw in now see those gems right there what to do about those you could you could leave them right there if you want any or take a little saw like this you can cut those off right there okay we'll just be careful not to mark up your posts and stuff and you know what to do about dad should I cut them off not hurt anything the gates closed see later on if this ever needs to be adjusted again all you have to do is tap back down on there worst-case scenario if you cut them off if you have if your gate ever sags or something you want to do something differently you could put another wedge right there take the old ones out and all that but you know what I'm gonna leave them in I'm gonna leave them in this time I don't think they're gonna hurt anybody I'll still sleep fine tonight hey I was about to it was about two weeks ago I came out here and fixed this fit gate and I'm glad I left those in there remember I was gonna cut them off well this gate when I got here was sagging just a little bit and was almost rubbing so I just tapped those down with the hammer a little bit and the gate is working fine now I should have done that I should have done my video before but I wasn't over here to look at this gate but it's back where it needs to be there's about a half-inch gap there and it was almost rubbing when I got here let's see by putting those in there and leaving them up a little bit off the ground you know leaving those shims in there you can adjust it it ever sags again just whack those babies down a little bit more and you'll be fine man I'm glad I left those and I cut those off what would have happened I would have had to dig them out wedge them out or try to tap them with another block of wood on top of it and push them down a little bit further I could have done that to you a little bit maybe you know there's a tip for you that's all I have time for but I'll be back with more videos
