Please explain how to use dietary supplements for acid reflux

hi I'm Charlotte Lawson a registered and licensed dietitian now if you have acid reflux you've probably been experimenting and trying to figure out what you can change in your diet to really help improve our excuse me decrease your symptoms you may have heard of different vitamins or minerals for instance maybe vitamin C for acid reflux but typically calcium is really the mineral and magnesium also as well to help remove or diminish those acid reflux symptoms now there's also things as far as your dietary pattern and certain foods that maybe you can avoid to again help relieve that acid or heartburn now it's a little bit different for each person so my first recommendation is really to keep a food diary as well as a food symptom diary meaning write down the foods that you eat and then record your symptoms after the fact for instance high acidity foods like tomatoes or our citric fruits or citric foods excuse me like oranges grapefruit may often have a high acid production for some person but not everyone now also keep in mind our eating pattern it's really recommended to eat smaller more frequent meals throughout the day versus larger meals that again fill up a large volume into your stomach and can often force that acid up into our esophagus producing those reflux symptoms also keep in mind not to lay down within two hours after eating give your body some time to digest and push things along through this system so again you're not at that top level where your stomach is overfilled and may be having a little bit of that acid leakage up into our throat so again as far as minerals go check out calcium and your magnesium try to have six smaller meals a day keep a food diary with your symptoms and avoid laying down right after eating but they're just a couple tips to help manage the acid reflux symptoms I'm Charlotte and eat happy
