hi I'm Angela price from Eden condense small space garden design and this is garden space so as much as I really don't like weeding it is necessary to clear out a flowerbed before planting to get as many of the weeds out as possible the other thing is when the weeding is that it does allow you to get a little closer to the ground and see what's popping up and see what's going on with your ground and you can also see the kind of pests that might be in it and other things that are happening with your flowerbeds so I'm preparing this bed here around this small tree for planting and I do have bulbs in the ground here so I do want to be careful so the tool of my choice is this garden fork if you've got a larger space you can use a garden hoe to get some weeds out but I'm going to kind of go through and the other tool is my hand so with your hands you can actually get in and get a lot of stuff now I've got an oak tree and I have lovely squirrels in my yard and they left to bury their acorn so I always have a lot of oak tree sprouts coming up so I want to get down into there and see as deep as I can get those out also there's usually a lot of grass in my plantings as well as weeds you'll want to set the weeds aside and really get in with your hoe to clear them out if you've got some deep-rooted weeds you can use a vinegar spray you can also use boiling water to kill the weeds although that generally won't kill them beneath the surface so sometimes you just have to get in on your hands and knees and start pulling stuff up by the roots I can also see the the health of the bulbs that are left over from the spring and get some of the dead pieces of the stems up too because I don't want those to get moldy or get any mildew into my dirt so this will also kind of help you dig up I've got some bulbs here I've got to be careful of those and put those back in but that'll generally give you a good way of getting into your flowerbeds and getting most of the weeds out now with the weeds and things that you pick out I usually will put this in the trash can and not in my composter because what I don't want is for the seeds of any weeds to get into my compost and then be redistributed back through my garden so that's an important tip there if you need any other tips on how to weed out a garden before planting please contact me at WWE dan condense calm thank you very much
