hey everyone so a while back I got a request to do a werewolf related project and I figured what better time to do it then this month today I'm going to be showing you how to make a few different components to make a werewolf costume you can make all of them some of them or just one of them in order to put together your costume there's quite a bit to cover so let's get started first we'll start at the bottom the feet these are the most time-consuming pieces but totally worth it if you have the time and materials to put it together you'll need a pair of shoes I used some flats that were destined for the donate pile shoes that cover the top of your foot would be ideal like boots or just regular sneakers or something like that elastic if you're using flats upholstery foam fake fur polymer clay or fake claws hot glue a box cutter or exacto knife and scissors if you're using a pair of flats cut glue an elastic strip across the shoes this gives you something to attach the fur to cover the tops of your feet later on cut four rectangles of foam to make the toes use your scissors to shape each piece into a wolf's toe type of shape then cut away the bottom part of the toes so they fit onto the shoe like so hot glue them down from the scrap Foam add a fifth toe a little further back on the inside of the foot if you don't have fake claws you can make some with polymer clay just take some chunks of clay shape them into long teardrop shapes and make them a little bit curved to make a claw like shape then pinch the base to flatten it vertically bake them according to the instructions and paint them if you so desire I painted mine black with enamel paint so they're all nice and shiny you can totally paint these after you've attached them to the feet because if you get any paint on the foam then it doesn't matter because you're going to cover it with fake fur anyway use some scissors to snip vertical holes on the tip of each toe hot glue each quad place all you have to do now is cover it with fake fur working one toe at a time cut a rectangle of fake fur and in the middle cut a slit up about an inch or so make sure to align it so the first direction is pointing down and when you're cutting fur I suggest cutting it from the back pushing the blade up against the fabric at the base of the fur and this should help you from cutting off too much of the fur apply hot glue or on the base of a claw and glued the fur down positioning the claw in the slit that you cut slowly glue the rest of the fur down cutting off any excess fur where it starts to bunch up brush the fur back about one or two inches away from the tip of the toe and then trim down the fur that's on the toe repeat for all of the toes once they're covered and the fur is trimmed you can cover the rest of the shoe cut long rectangles of fur with the first direction pointing towards the toes and glue those down onto the sides leaving about an inch gap on the heels then cut another rectangle of fur about an inch wide and glue it to the heel with the fur pointing downwards brush the fur over to cover the seam now use your scissors to trim off the excess fur around the bottom of the shoe to cover the top of the shoe cut enough fur to cover the top with the fur pointing towards the toes and if you're using flats and have an elastic strap then add an inch on each side apply a line of glue down the middle of the elastic and glue the fur down glue the other side of the fur flap down at the base of the toes and then you're pretty much done I wanted to leave the fur unattached from the rest of the elastic so that it would still stretch when I put the shoe on I considered using velcro for the sides to keep them from flapping up but I ended up not having a problem because my pants held the fur down you can trim and brush the fur around until you're happy with how the feet look now for some hands you'll need a pair of gloves fake fur scissors hot glue and/or a needle and thread it would work best if you got a pair of gloves that matched your fur if you want to use full-length gloves you can add claws to the end of the fingers like you did for the toes but I wanted my fingers exposed so I made these gloves into fingerless ones to do the same just cut the tips of the fingers off flip inside out fold about 1/4 of an inch down on each finger and tack it down with some thread flip it back all you have to do now is cover the top of the gloves with fake fur you can sew the fur down but I figured hot glue would be fine since this is a costume and not everyday wear or something like that and it's much quicker start by adding the small square or rectangle of fur to each finger you will probably need to add an extra to the thumb I suggest periodically putting these on while you're working on them so you can see if you're missing a spot and then you can fill it in when you have all the fingers done glue one big piece to cover the entire back of the hand again check for any missing spots and fill them in then apply glue around the edge and brush the fur over and around the edges into the glue this hides the edge of the faux fur and then you're pretty much done next a mask you'll need a masquerade style mask one of the ones that covers just your eyes in your nose polymer clay faux fur scissors black paint and a marker use a marker to mark where the nose would be on the mask and then sculpt the nose with polymer clay I just looked at a bunch of photos of dogs to help make it the nose right once you're done with that bake it according to the Clay's instructions while you're waiting for the nose to bake the mask can get covered cut a piece of faux fur out that's as big as the mask hot glue the fur onto the mask with the fur pointing upwards to make sure to cover the mask without the fur bunching up weirdly start by gluing down the center first and be careful when putting hot glue right on to the flimsy mask as it can melt it I suggest adding glue onto the back of the fur fabric instead and then putting that onto the mask slowly work across the mask until it's completely covered repeat for the other side trim the excess fur around the edges and the eye holes and then flip the mask back over and start trimming the long fur down around the nose and the eyes when your nose is done baking you can hot glue it onto the mask I painted this with more enamel black paint to make it look wet and shiny and then use some black paint to add some detail around the eyes and the nose like so and then your mask is complete on to the ears a while ago I saw a tutorial on how to make elf ears by Claire Dilys who by the way has a ton of awesome tutorials for special effects makeup and just normal makeup definitely go check her channel out I'll include a link below anyway I decided to use her tutorial and modify it a little bit in order to make some werewolf ears you'll need liquid latex the stuff I'm showing here actually didn't work for me it's kind of old so that's why I think it didn't work I ended up using some newer stuff and it was a lot thicker which made the ear not as smooth but I was going to cover it with fur anyway so I wasn't worried about it look what stuff does work and that's what Claire uses I just think mine was too old fake fur polymer clay a paintbrush baby powder and a big fluffy powder brush first I'll show you my failed attempt take your clay make a triangle shape with the base about as wide as the top of your ear and as skinny as your ear hold it up to your ear and make a curb mark where the top of your ear is onto the clay if you're making your point a little bit bigger like I did then use the mark as a reference and add a small coil of clay to the inside of the ear between the mark and the edge of the ear and blend it out this will give a little bit of detail so the ear doesn't just look weirdly flat on the tip repeat for the other ear making sure to make a mirrored version if you're using more liquidy latex string wire through the bottom part of the ear you'll use this wire to help string them up later now you should go bake the clay which I didn't my thought process was that the latex would totally just peel off anyway so I can peel it off and still have all this clay that I could use for other things once you've baked them cover them with a light coat of liquid latex use the back of your paintbrush not the bristles as this would ruin them start at the bases it here don't go past the curved line that you marked earlier and try to keep this layer as thin as you can once you've covered the whole thing hang it up to dry the reason you'll hang them upside down is so the extra latex will pool at the tip of the ear which makes it look more natural and helps keep the edges thin which will help you blend it into your ear later once it's dry add another layer and repeat until it's thick enough I did about four layers and it was plenty so it went downhill for this one soon after this even though I waited to add more latex until the previous layer was completely dry when I tried to peel it off it was just not happening I thought maybe the latex was reacting to the unbaked clay so I decided to test it out I put a little bit of this old latex onto a ziploc bag and next to that I put some of the new liquid latex I waited for it to dry and then I tried peeling it off the old latex reacted the same way while the new stuff filled off super easy anyway I had to redo everything I didn't bother attaching wire so I could hang these ears up because the latex was so thick that it didn't drip instead I cut slits into some extra foam that I had and I stuck the ears into that as they dry so once you have all the layers done dust the ears with baby powder to attach the fur apply more latex to the edges and on the back cut some fake fur at the base and press it into the wet latex align the fur so that it's pointing towards the tip of the ear this makes a little fur tuft at the end and also makes the ear seem a little bit longer when the latex is dry dust some more baby powder start carefully peeling the edge away from the clay dust baby powder onto the inside of the ear as you go or else it might stick to itself and you'll never be able to get it to come apart and now you're done to apply these pin your hair back you can pin some paper around your ear to help keep the stray hairs away to put some liquid latex around the edge of the inside of the ear and place it onto your ear hold it until it's dry use some more latex around the edge to blend it in with your skin then use some makeup or skin colored paint to color the parts of the ear that aren't covered with fur and then you're ready to go lastly I'll show you how to make a faux fur stole I wanted to make something that would mimic the fur around a wolf's neck but also potentially be something I can wear other parts of the year so I settled with a stool which would be super nice and warm during winter you'll need a pattern which I'll tell you how to make in a second faux fur lining fabric hook and eye closures pins a sewing machine needle and thread and an annoying kitten to make the pattern lay out some paper and make a rectangle that's about 32 by 12 inches from the middle measure down eight inches sketch out a boomerang shape like so to make it easy and symmetrical just fold it in half and cut the pattern out spread out the faux fur with the fur pointing down flip it over use the pattern to mark it and then cut make sure to cut the fur like how I mentioned before try to keep the blade of the scissors as close to the base of the fur as you can use the pattern to mark and cut the lining fabric to pin the fabric together right sides together when you do this make sure to push the fur into the inside of the fabric like this so I'll round the edges leaving about four inches open on the bottom flip it right side out pin the fabric together and hand sew the opening closed drape the stool around your shoulders to find out where you want to put the hook and eye closure I put mine about five inches from the very tip so those on and you're done you can wear this over your costume or under to expose some fur as if your body is completely covered throw on a flannel shirt paint your nails black or attach some big long black nails put everything on and the costume is complete for me since I wear glasses I'll probably just leave the mask at home instead I'm just going to do some werewolf type makeup there are so many tutorials on how to do werewolf
