hello I'm Debbie from so so easy and in this video I'm going to show you how to make a padded wine bag you can also use it to make an insulated wine bag if you want to keep your wine cool when you're in a journey so you'll need to prepare your pattern cut out your pattern pieces and then use it to cut your fabric the pieces you'll need a very easy you have two outer pieces two inner or lining pieces and two pieces that you'll use for the ribbon casing on the outside you can tell which is the top and the bottom easily because all of them are going to have this knot cut out the bottom and that'll be where we're going to box the bag at the bottom to stand the wine up in so you want to start on the reverse of your fabric by ironing on some fusible fleece I've done mine on all four pieces but if you would like to you can just do it on these outer pieces and you can leave the inner pieces unlined that's entirely up to you so start off by adding your fleece to your pattern pieces and then we all need to sell so first we're going to work on our casing pieces at the end of each on the short end just press under a small quarter of an inch here and here and then we'll just run a straight stitch along these edges to hold that turn in place and then we need to fold it into shape so let me stitch first of all just with a straight stitch and then we'll come back to prepare your casing pieces once they're sewn fold it in half lengthways and press it with your iron and when you open out there'll be a crease along this Center and you take the edges and turn each into the center match them up like that and press again this is one I've already done so it looks nice and neat from the outside and the two edges are pressed both in towards the center we'll do that with the other one and then we'll come back and sew onto the bag so to add their casing onto the outside of the bag we just use a ruler and measure down three inches from the top of the bag line up your casing three inches from the top like this add in a couple of pins and you're going to Center the casing across the middle of the bag so that there's a gap on either side and this will be left free for your seam allowances so then repeat exactly the same on your other piece line up three inches down from the top pin again and we just need to sew along the top and bottom edge so sew along this edge here and this edge here but don't sew this end closed because if you sew that close you won't be able to get your a tie through now later on so sew the top and the bottom and then we'll come back and do some more now that your casings are in place we need to put our two outer pieces right sides together we match up here at the corners here at the top and then we need to pin down these sides and pin along this bottom part and if you take it to the Machine you sew along this bottom hem here with a half inch seam and also all the way along this side and this other side so broke down all those three seams with a half inch seam and then we'll come back and do the next step so my seams are all sewn and now we need to use these cut out parts in the bottom to make the the boxy shape where the wine will set so if you pick up and open out and you can see that you have two seams here and you need to match those two seams together like this okay now it's quite thick at the bottom so if you turn one one way excuse me turn one that way turn the way of them on the other way so it's quite flat and just put a pin in there and then if you take it to your sewing machine and sew all the way across from here to here repeat on the Box apart on the other side and you'll end up with a squared off bottom again use a half inch seam allowance so also mine and then we'll come back so the corners at the bottom of the bag when I've sewn I'm just going to take my scissors and trim that off a little bit so that it looks nice and neat okay it also reduces some of the bulk at the bottom of the back okay so this is now our boxy shape at the bottom which is great that will hold on to our wine bottle now if you take your lining pieces I'm going to do exactly the same with these as you did with the outer so put them face together sew down the sides and the bottom however if there's one difference with the lining and you need to leave a little space open in the side of the lining so say around four inches so when you sew your lining or so from the top to here you'll sew here and along this bottom edge and all the way up the other side but you'll leave a four inch gap in one side here which is unsewn and this was going to what we'll use later on to turn the whole seam the right way round so carry on and so that now then go in box your bottom corners for the lining exactly the same way and then we'll come back and start to put the two together so our inside and a right side and now ready and we need to put the two together so we take the outside pieces turn them the right way and this now is to go inside the lining so that the two right sides are together so if I open up my lining and put this outer piece on the inside so the right sides are together we'll need a bit of Malou rinth get your hammer down inside okay grasp at the bottom and pull this one up so now we want to match the side seam on the lining with the side seam on the outer fabric match up just here put a pin match the two raw edges there of the lining on the outer fabric in there same on the other side match up those side seams match up the top edges okay so now I have a great big long fabric sausage and if we take this to the sewing machine you need to sew all the way around this top edge 1/2 inch from these raw edges take your pins out as you go and because the seams are quite bulky just flatten the seams when you get to them so that one seam allowance goes one way one goes the other way and then you can sew over those a lot easier ok I'll meet you back here once those are sewn together so now we've got our fabric sausage completed we need to turn it the right way around and we still have this opening in our lining fabric just here so if you reach inside pull out the outer fabric and keep pulling all the way eventually the lining will turn out on itself too okay you can push out those corners where you've got your boxy bottom there we go and one great big long sausage and now it's just a case of closing this part here so you can either just fold them over like this and depending on how posh you want the inside to be you can run an invisible hand stitch along this seam but I figure no one's going to see the inside of my wine bag tile to be too busy drinking the bottle of wine so I'm just going to push those seams close together put a couple of pins in to hold it in place and then I'll just take it to the sewing machine and run a very just a line of stitches close to that edge which is just going to close up just going to close up here this I mean that we've just used for turning okay I'll see you back in a moment so there we go my quick and easy way to just sew up the side and now we need to really get our bag to start taking shape so this inner part is now going to push down inside the actor put your arm down in there you can see whether the boxy part is at the bottom of the bag I've just got my hand down in there and I'm pushing pushing out those corners okay lining up the inner fabric so it's nice and tight and now if I straighten it all right around the top I'll just adjust it a little bit so that this seam runs neatly around right the two sets of fabric are okay that looks good now I'm going to take this to my ironing board and just press and that will hold this seam just stay neatly in place because I'm going to top stitch this next so I'll press and then I'll take it to my sewing machine and I'll just run a line of top stitching about a quarter of an inch from this seam all the way around that will hold that lining down in place nicely okay so the bag is looking good we've gone our top stitching around the edge just here so now all that's left is to put some ribbons or some little bit of rope or whatever decorative things you've got to go through and pull back together I've got a couple of bits of ribbon I'm going to use you can put them on the end of a safety pin but I've got a large paper clip that I like to use either one will work and if you feed your ribbon in through the casing on one side and you'll need to feed it through can be a bit difficult okay that's one side done now we'll put through the other side of the casing to okay I'm at the other side that's my first one done and those both come out of this side so now when I put in the ribbon to go on the opposite side I need to start it in the opposite place because we're going to need to pull both sides and they need to be opposites in order to close it so I'm going to start on this other side now and I'll finish off putting that through the casing and on the back here in a minute and I've got a ribbon coming from one side and I started the ribbon on the opposite side so I've got one here to cut them more or less equal in length either side and to stop them coming through I'm just going to tie very simple knot in the end so that they'll stay even and they won't go through the gap by mistake do the same on the other side there we go so now our wine cooler or wine container is nearly done all we need to do is slip our bottle inside pull these and tie them in a nice knot or a bow and a bottle of wine or spirits or whatever you're giving somebody is done thank you very much for watching I'd love it if you pop on over to so so easy and there are lots more sewing tutorials on there that you might be interested in see you again soon
