if you're like me you're always looking for a simple project that will make a huge impact on your home lucky for us tech expert Geno generalities here with a project just like that that's right a lot of people like to have over or under cabinet lighting to add an extra pop of light in their kitchen so it gives a really nice effect and there's a product out there called philips hue light strips that allow you to do that quickly and easily without having to hire an electrician you can do it all yourself the only thing you'll need for this project is the Philips hue lighting kit for $199 you'll get two LED light strips and a hub this hub allows you to control the lights from your smartphone including the color and the dimness so what's our first step you'll plug this in where your home internet comes in okay this connects right to your wireless router with an Ethernet cable this plugs into the wall you'll download the Philips hue app for free from the App Store okay and that kind of walks you through the whole process the back side of the strip has a sticky adhesive so you can easily secure the strips to the underside of your kitchen cabinets for an extra pop of light but Gino has a different plan what I actually want to do today though is have it above my cabinet sure kind of reflects off the ceiling and it gives a really cool look what I'm going to do is just lay it flat you don't have to stick it down if you can lay it flat on the upper part if you're using an under cabinet of course you'll want to use the adhesive and just be sure to clean off that surface really good first so that it sticks well I didn't even have to move any of my pots and pans to install this the entire light strip works for our space but there are cut marks if you need to trim the strip to fit your needs and then once you have it laid pretty flat you'll just plug it in all right now that I have the lighting installed I've got my hub already set up I can use my iPhone to turn on the lights so I can actually drag the icon around and change the color too Wow any number of 16 million different shades and you can also control the dimness and when I'm all done I can just peel them up and take them to my next apartment and if you really if you just want a basic color you can just set this up to be an accent light absolutely you don't have to use any of the crazier options you can just use sort of basic warm tone or if you want a cooler kind of white light you can just select between those but if I want fuchsia in the cells middle house I can do that absolutely yeah fuchsia there you go there's no need to call an electrician for this easy lighting project for less than two hundred dollars and in about ten minutes you can give your kitchen a whole new look now that sounds like a bright idea
