hey guys i'm nick and on this episode of the scram line we are taking it back to basics back to basics not the christina aguilera album we're taking it back to cookie basics now on this episode i'm showing you how to make sugar cookies sugar cookies are perfect for really anything and they're so easy to make kids could make them you can use these for decorating for a kid's birthday halloween christmas now these are different to butter cookies butter cookies are kind of like melt in your mouth sugar cookers are a little bit firmer which makes them perfect for decorating they're not going to break easily like butter cookies now they're both delicious cookies but i'm showing you how to make sugar cookies because we're going to be making something really cool later on in the week but today i'm showing you how to make sugar cookies these are the ingredients you're gonna need okay guys so you're gonna need some softened butter some caster sugar some sifted flour and a pinch of salt some milk and a splash of vanilla and an egg so to get started we're going to pop our softened butter and sugar into a mixing bowl and mix this until it's nice and creamy scrape down your bowl and add your egg and mix that until it's well incorporated once that's looking nice and fluffy you can pop half of your flour half of your milk and a splash of vanilla give that a mix until it reaches paste consistency then you can scrape down and add the rest of your flour and milk now it's going to look a little bit crummy but as long as everything looks like it's mixed in properly you can go ahead and stop and pour it out onto a clean working surface so we're going to give that a little bit of a need to help it come together wrap it in a little bit of glad wrap and pop it in the fridge so it can rest for 20 minutes okay so our dough's been resting in the fridge for about 20 minutes we're going to help it soften by giving it a bit of a need pop a little bit of flour on top of your workbench and using a rolling pin you're gonna roll it out to about half a centimeter thick or five millimeters thick so each time you roll you want to spin it around now this prevents it from sticking to the bench and also helps you get a nice even thickness on your dough so use your cutter to cut out your shapes pop them onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake them for 10 minutes let them cool down and i've just sifted a little bit of icing sugar on top of my cookies okay guys so that was my recipe for sugar cookies now with these sugar cookies like i said you can use them a whole different bunch of ways you can sandwich them together with nutella which honestly all of the cookies that i made for this recipe video i've eaten probably about 80 of them with a cheeky spread of nutella on top and oh my god it's delicious so you can dust icing sugar on top you can really do anything you want with these cookies if you'd like the recipe it's going to be on thescreenline.com subscribe button is up there it is free to click if you like this video hit the like button if you want to see more delicious recipes there's a video that you can click on thanks for watching guys and i'll see you on the next episode of this grand line
