Please explain how to plant potted plants in a straw bale garden

hi this is Chris from LiveDan330.com We're doing a series on straw bale
gardens or following Joe carston's book Straw bale gardening This is our first straw bale garden we have ever
done we will let you know how it goes Today I'm going to show you how to plant plants before you even get your plants in, I
want to talk to you just briefly about how to purchase plants I you can go to big box stores usually
be the cheapest I've had some bad experiences with them
in the past I really prefer that you look for local greenhouse I you're gonna have usually more
knowledgeable people and better quality plants it's not
always the case just be smart about it I'm this is a four by four inch pot this
is probably like three-and-a-half to four dollars a store here in cities you can also get the smaller pots really
gonna have about this size but segment in the four places that's going to be the same prices can
reduce the price per pot per plant by what three dollars with a straw bale
garden the warmth you get in the spring are going to let those smaller plants catch up to those
bigger plants quickly anyways okay, so I've got this plan to the
concert to see this is seated now you can certainly see the seeds coming up all showing but that the next video but
I right now on to take the steering on and
I show you how to plant them the roots actually grow inside the bales here and I'm to put this on the side reason
doing the side is because I think the more interesting it's really the same process I'm a top
but I thought if I show you the top remake will he do on the side it's the
same process don't worry about it so I'm a show it is what it looks like
on the inside a little bit just it's just this what its decomposing it
smells just a great medium for roots so that so
looks like I'm just got a little hole here lot of
people use shovels that's fine but you know God
means great little fingers you can use the same thing you don't like dirty and
it's been here Ristic a little bit a dirt in and the
reason that we're using that is that we want to heal the plans and we
don't want the roots ever to bare this is just going to have a lot more air in this than there is in the dirt a little bit of dirt in here like that that can protect any
roots thing you can see on the outside like
this we don't want these be exposed air that's why were putting the soil in. so I just to use my hands here in open
the hole up the best they can were setting it on top in the dirt and
also make sure that don't use dirt from the garden you have
diseases and other things you don't want in your garden are the reason you struggle garden is
because it's easier you don't wanna make things harder than it has to be some
just going to shove a litte dirt around the plant like this that's going
to help heal it in and protect those routes around the
edges pot from drying out of course as this grows now its going to grow right into the center of our
bales where we're getting our nice decomposing
decomposition and I'm going to stick our little label in there so i remmber what this is and that is how we do it.
