hey there my friends John here of course and as some of you may know we've done a few DIY still builds here over the years now the one that I wanted to share with you today is a little bit different it's actually a rocket stove made using just a single log and it's pretty unique in the fact that it works both as a very effective stove as well as a self-sustaining long burning fire in its own right kind of a double threat I guess you might call it now it's awesome to have around camp for use as a little side cooking apart from your main campfire as a self-sustaining single log fire in its own right even on the old back patio to toast up a few marshmallows but either way what do you say I quit rambling and show you guys how to make this thing now you're going to need a drill to make this little stove and while I'm obviously out here in the woods this is probably a project best tackle at home unless that is you have a really long extension cord like I do the next thing you'll need is of course a section of log with which to make your stove the one I'm using is approximately six inches in diameter by 14 inches in length using your drill and a standard one-inch spade bit go ahead and drill a hole in the center a log to a depth of about two-thirds of the way down now flip the log on its side and drill another hole that intersects with the bottom of the first one you should end up with the two holes connected and looking something like this stand the log back into an upright position and you now have a stove that's ready for action if you're going to use it for cooking place a few small rocks on the top to act as a pot stand alternatively you can drive in some nails to serve the same purpose just make sure to remove them before disposing of the log now for the fun part time to fire this baby up you know I think I might just enjoy playing the fire a little too much either way put a flame to some type of firestarter in this case fat wood and insert it into the side hole this is really the only time you use it for adding fuel as its primary function is to allow airflow add a few small pieces of kindling to the flue hole as well very quickly the log will start burning itself from the inside and before long you should have a nice solid fire going you can already see the intense flames shooting from the top you can now go ahead and place your pot pan or coffee pot on and begin cooking when you're finished using the stove either extinguish it for later use let it continue to burn or add it to your main campfire for more fuel well my friends I hope you like this little project and have fun making one or two you're on some time and if you enjoyed this one I've actually included a few links down below to some related videos that you may like as well now before I head off to the old campfire and enjoy my cup of coffee I just wanted to take a second to say thank you all very much for your support it is truly appreciated and until next time take the best of care and we'll be seeing you soon you
