so a few years ago a friend of mine asked me to come over help them cut down this olive tree that was growing out of control in the wrong spot and the deal was that I was being able to keep whatever would I wanted you so I have not opened up this bag since April of 2014 and what I did was I made a blank for a mortar and pestle out of this one here so let's see what this I put it in sawdust and I don't see any major cracks except for this one here which I might be able to get around so this will be the mortar and on this one this blank here is crack all over the place but I think I'm gonna be able to salvage some type of pets a lot of this one way or the other shame big piece of wood like that but that cracks everywhere so let's get this on the lathe and see what we could do with it so I got the shape Wendy I wandered for the mortar on the laser and I know it's got these cracks in it as a couple of teeth here but I'm just gonna keep going for it because it's such a cool piece of wood I'm gonna I'm just gonna sand it down and then I'll make the pencil afterwards yeah I think it's gonna turn out okay because it might just give it a little bit of character okay so I got a rough sketch out for there the pestle in between a lot of these cracks I have in this block so we'll take it to the bandsaw make a nice little block out of this all right so now it's time to put a finish on it i sanded it down to 320 what I'm going to put on there is just a cutting board oil since this is going to be a contact with food lady go that turned out kind of cool this olive wood is just it's just really awesome it's got so much character in it and once you put something off in on it it just really pops it is probably my favorite wood yeah that was a cool build not too difficult so give it a shot and I hope you enjoyed it and you haven't subscribed yet please do so and I will see you soon
