hey what's up guys this video is to show you how to light a road flare why would you watch a video like this well you should probably know how to do this it seems very straightforward in fact there's instructions print on every road flare tells you exactly what to do but these are things you should actually practice beforehand because if you're the person that waits until you actually need one to read the instructions you might be in trouble or you might be putting yourself in a dangerous situation let's say you know your car breaks down you're on a very busy highway on the shoulder in the middle of night and you know you have road flares you know you want to set it up so people can see you particularly massive tractor trailers doing 80 miles an hour but you're sitting there in the dark because you're probably unprepared and have no flashlights looking at these instructions trying to figure it out you should know this stuff beforehand it's like how to use a fire extinguisher might do a video on that too it seems straightforward yeah there's instructions on it whatever well you gotta wait for the fire to burn your house down before you figure it out how to do it got to learn these things beforehand the real reason why I'm doing this not just to show you how to do it is because this particular one has been sitting outside in an unenclosed container wasn't air tight or anything for last two and a half years so it's been through winters it's been through rain the actual body of this has been you know sopping wet at one point I want to see if this one still works so anyway I'm doing this barehanded on me safety equipment so and do what I do just enjoy the video and hope I don't burn myself I do have a bucket of water there because I'm not planning on letting this burn the whole way once it's late and going I'm just going to extinguish it so yeah plus I'm actually wondering if that will extinguish it or if it's just going to burn under the water content under the same concept as a you know storm proof match kind of a thing I don't know we'll get to find out anyway if you're actually using this for the road you're gonna want to take these metal pieces here and bend them down okay so this will and out you're making a triangle so this will actually sit on the ground for you just like so well bend them properly so it's actually going to support the road flare and basically what it's going to look like all right but I'm not using this road so I only need these in fact I'm going to bend them backwards in case I need more of an extension of a handle so I'm very straightforward with this but here's how you do it we have a cap pop off our cap okay this is basically our striking pad it's going to be a rough surface sandpaper-like okay the top part here grasp firmly and twist off and I'm twisting and pulling at the same time there you go a little pop noise so there's our cab there's our exposed tip and our striking pad okay so basically just like a match we're going to strike this off of here and it's going to be let alright seems straightforward but just see if this is as easy as it sounds so here we go now I'm going to angle this a little bit I don't want to strike this and have this facing my hand particularly cuz my hands are bare probably want to use gloves but I'm going to try to do this on an angle there we go actually fairly simple to do should burn for quite a while this is a longer one this is about an 18 inch road flare that's pretty much it but then this back to this looks like if you were actually using this properly have it just like so and obviously you set this up you know at least 3040 feet from your car you want to get people time to see it plus you don't want to buy your car anyway since we have an open flame that's pretty much it's going to die down a little bit after that initial burn and it should be a nice solid out of red color now this one being old I'm seeing it's kind of spewing out little pieces every now and then that's not so safe but uh yeah so there you go that's how you light a road flare at least most of the common ones in white so I'm going to attempt to extinguish one now because I'll need to be using it right now although I'm a little curious to see how this continues to burn so I'll sit here for a minute I'm getting eaten by the mosquitoes this one's spitting out little fireballs with molten lava shouldn't probably shouldn't be standing so close to it walk over here for me I might not be because it's all there might be a common occurrence the road players but really starting to spit it down so that's time cleared out there you go you get the idea you can see the outsides just kind of burning with a normal flame the inside you're going to have that chemical that's going to burn strong the entire way through and the core kind of like a torch flame now if need be of course this can be used for improvised fire starting method if you're really in a survival type situation and you don't have any matches or anything and you're dealing with like hypothermia of course you might want to use this to signal for help as well well that's adjusted it and we'll put it out now or see if I could put it out all right so this should continue to work even when it's heavily raining but completely submersed you can see it does go out so leave that in there for safety of course that does smell quite bad so furry smell of firework type smell but there you go that's how to light and use Road flail hope you guys enjoyed the video thanks for watching it'll be enjoy the rest your day take care
