at the end of the season before you put your Caravan away for winter storage it's important to make sure that your water system is in the right condition to lay dormant for a few months that's why Karimun times has come here to Northern Ireland to speak to whale you make water pumps and underfloor heaters to find out what the most important things you should do before putting your periban into storage so Aiden what's the most important thing to do before putting your Caravan into storage the the general sort of winterizing process and the first thing that you do is when you go under your Caravan as you switch your pump off your main control board and what do you then do is you need to get all your valves open so you go with the tops first and hot on cold side on both so if you have a single leaver make sure you go into the central position if you have two separate control knobs on your tops you just open both hot and cold and you do that through each one of your units with your shower sometimes excess water can set in the head that sort of a head assembly of your shower so what you want to do is screw that off and give it a good shape to get the excess water out of it that is pretty much gonna purge through the system so when's the best time to do this winterizing through experience we would always advise that the the winterizing process should be done before you leave sight on your last holiday of the season and the reason being is that if you do go through the processes of actually draining down your system during your journey home in your motor home run and your Caravan there is a lot of bumps and turns and stuff on the road so it does sort of help the shake out the excess water from the system once you do actually return home once you've done that you should just through the journey alone cleared out the excess water and an important thing what people would forget is that if you are actually parking it up and I'm believing that they're in storage or in the driveway over the the sort of the winter period you want to make sure that it's not on a slope were the the durian valve is at a higher point than the rest of the van because if you can imagine if it's at a higher point the water's going to run down to the lowest point and it's not going to actually drain right so we would always recommend if possible park on the slope and or sort of try and Jack it up a bit so that your drain valve is at the lowest point of the van so the excess water over a period of time can trickle down and filter right and apart from the water system what other advice can you offer for winterizing a gallon really the the if you have a caravan that has a heating system that has a frost protection and like our wheel and underfloor two kilowatt but she would have installed in this car of iron has a very easy frost protection setting and where if the caravan does drop me there were certain temperature I think it's around two to three degrees the the thermostat will pick up on that it will switch on and it'll purge and try and keep the temperature up above freezing within the caravan that way if you've left any sort of pumps and any settings any filters in the caravan it maintains a sort of temperature where they're not actually going to freeze up with any excess water in them and what items should you take out the caravan store in your house the the main one that we would we would recommend that you remove would probably be your inline filter and the filter itself because of the the nature of the product that will store water in it and at conk rock depending on where it is filters are using located and underneath your sink units up against the walls it can get very cold in there and because it's obviously an enclosed space as well which the sphere sealer doesn't have much of a chance to get out so they can't actually freeze up and crack and that's pretty much set as far as removing anything if you have external settings like a submersible pump or aqua source means connector and we would always recommend you give that a shake put in our bags from where I'm trying to keep it somewhere where it's going to be warm as well so that the the frost doesn't get a chance so some parents have a submersible water system and some have an onboard pump how does that affect the winterizing process and it just changes it up slightly for you with a submersible and pump system it's generally gonna be little outside Devon where your submersible pump just needs a quick shake and then stored somewhere where it's just going to be minty and above freezing with your own board pump system what you want to do is once you have all the valves open all the tops open you want to switch your pump on at the control board and just let your pump run and for roughly around sort of five man let's just give it an extra sort of purge cycle that way it will clear the excess water out of the system
