Please explain how to make an envelope pillow sham

this video is presented by sailrite we'll be showing you the steps to make an envelope pillow sham we'll be using a Sunbrella furniture fabric which is the best pillow cover material for fade-resistant stain-resistant and durability use Sunbrella furniture fabric for soft and comfortable pillow shams pillow that you're using since everybody's in different sizes this one we're on a half an inch to come down so you actually have to go to the center seam of your pillow measure it across the extra half inch 36 long and then we're coming from this side across and that one's measuring at 18 so it's 36 by 18 we're gonna make a two inch border it's gonna go all the way around so we're going to want to add another two inches plus an inch for our seams pillows measuring 36 and we want two inches all the way around the pillow so that'll be another 38 that'll be 40 that way you get two inches on either end plus another inch for your seams so we want it forty-one long and then we had 18 come up here come up 18 inches just the width of our pillow we need two inches for the bottom two inches across the top so take this up 18 infuse 20 and another to 22 and another inch for the seams - so on both sides so we needed 23 I'll go up there or 23 this will be the front side of the pillow will next be working on the back side that has the as Deb stated we just added to the length six inches the height the width is exactly the same okay so we have our front panel and then this is gonna be our back panel we have made six inches longer because we're gonna take and split it right down the center to make our envelope out of we have 47 inches here Debs now finding the center of this panel so that she can make her flaps we're gonna cut our pillow panels out with the professional hot knife you could use scissors but you can expect a little bit unraveling in lieu of a hot knife to help prevent unraveling use pinking shears the outside surfaces are facing down the inside surfaces will have the hem laid up against it our pillows are made of Sunbrella furniture fabric which is highly UV resistant and both water and stain resistant since Sunbrella furniture fabric is a little bit lighter it's a good idea to use be 69 or be 46 thread with a smaller needle to help prevent the fabric from puckery in this video we're using V 46 thread with the sailrite 111 sewing machine here both sides are hemmed Deb's placed the top panel on top of those two hem panels the outside surfaces are facing each other we'll start in the center where that him is and begin sewing it on making sure that it snaps up with that front panel on the underside remember most surfaces are facing each other they'll see Deb Feyerick attention a little bit to help avoid the fabric from puckering release the tension on the upper tension assembly notice when she gets to the corner she buries her needle the thickest part of the shaft raises her foot pivots on the needle lowers her foot and then continues to sell if she does it at the corner there as well we'll go all the way around this panel so we'll stop right here with Deb handles a little bit of reversing to lock the stitch in place she'll match up the opposite end this panel is laying over top of the other panel by approximately three inches and just sew it on the same way you did the previous will not show all of that we're checking tension here and make sure it's set Deb's turning the assembly right-side out now you can see where we have hurt insert our pillow into it push it into one side down into the other have you full of sound what we want to do now is so two inches around so that it puts like a framework right into the pillow cover my rulers 2 inches wide so that's why I just use the wide your ruler just marked in two in two then here okay we're gonna mark two inches in no one twos we're also gonna mark two inches down here so we'll mark our two inch mark here on the edge just gonna fall on this right from that you ain't get on we cross we're using a soapstone pencil my pencil make it real light see that very well my line coming through here well it's still laying flat gonna pin it or the line is just to hold your fabric together while we're strolling it across there that way your top isn't gonna shift off the bottom because we're sewing through the whole cover front and back well obviously draw the line all around the pillow on all size hand we use the straight pins to help keep the pillow from shifting as we take it to the sewing machine and sew a step explained okay now we have the two panels together back with the hem below so now we're gonna do is we're gonna sew right down those lines pulling the pins as we go okay now we're just gonna follow our chocolate I don't know if you can see it or not but it's right in here two inches in all the way through some of our customers so right over the pin and then pull the pin out later typically doesn't cause any problems this sailrite 111 sewing machine has the mc-scr power system notice our extreme slow speed control so right through the front silhouette this is a simple way to make a pillow sham with the frame and this is probably the most popular way to make a standard pillow sham and then put the pillow form in and we're all done that's how easy it is that's all there is to making an envelope pillow sham i'm eric grant with sailrite thanks for watching this video you
