hello I'm Aaron Rado from alpha Emma today we are going necktie not crazy I'm going to teach you how to tie my three favorite knots talk about when to wear each one and what collar works best with which knot I'm also going to offer you my totally biased opinion on these two beauties lots the cover so let's get started now the biggest problem with other how to tie knot tying videos is the fact that the geniuses who are showing you come up to the camera and do it well guess what it's totally reversed as to what you're going to see in the mirror thus a nation of confused dudes with jacked-up tie knots but not here no sir no way why because I'm going to actually film it in the mirror so the way that you watch it here is the way that you're going to actually see it when you're in the mirror trying to tie it yourself the three knots we're going to cover are the four-in-hand the Nikki knot and the full Windsor we're going from small to large from asymmetrical to symmetrical now there are a ton of other knot so if you're personally pumped by the pratt that's cool baby they have wings or is a perfectly solid knot but the fact is gentlemen time is dinero and so today we're just going to cover my three favorites and the two shirt colors we're going to reference are the spread and the cutaway also known as the point and I know that there are a lot of other collar options out there but these are the basics these are the ones that you're going to find most often and the ones that are most common kicking this off is not number one the four-in-hand this is going to be the smallest most casual tie knot option alright for hand time on this side you have the short little skinny end the side long fat end all you're going to do cross the fat end over top of the skinny end and pinch you're going to come around and make a little pocket with that middle finger alright hold it there then you're taking this long fatten up and through your neck let go of everything pull down adjust slide casually into place unhhhh pop collar and as it the foreign hand is your go-to not when you're trying to put together an outfit that says casual cool look the test yeah I'm wearing a tie or whatever and this is how the foreign hand looks with a spread collar personally I think that the foreign hand looks much better and is much more suited for the cutaway or point collar but lo and behold I do not own a dress shirt with that type of collar so this is what you get sorry next up is the Nicki not a slightly larger more symmetrical knot than the four-in-hand time for the Nicki not the short end is on your right hand side the long fatten on your left first step flip it upside down so that the seam of the tie and the tags are facing forward now all you do take the short end pass it over top of the long fat end and pinch take that long fat end and pull it up through the neck all right what you've created is this little tiny knot now take that bat end switch hands over to the other side it's the same direction as that short end is going okay now simply wrap it around up and through and what you're left with is a small little symmetrical knot known as the nicki unpop your color and you're ready to roll and I love me some Nicki not and I think you'll love it too you just got to give it a try it is very similar to the Pratt and a half-windsor except it's just a little bit more symmetrical you can see that it looks like a full Windsor except it's not quite as bulky but still maintains the nice esthetics and balance that the Windsor offers as far as collars are concerned you pick it works and looks great with the spread collar it also works and looks great with the point the Nicki not because of its size because of its shape pretty much universally awesome and last Big Daddy full Windsor the most symmetrical and dare I say robust of knots Big Daddy full Windsor starts like the other two not so you've got the short skinny end on the side the big long fat end on this side alright now this knot takes a bit more fabric so you might want to shorten up the amount that you have over here all right all you're going to do cross the big fat end over top pinch take the long end up under through and down on that side got it all right now simple pass it back underneath over this side down to the center and through and what you're left with is a small little symmetrical mini Windsor now it's as simple as holding going around the front holding holding holding up through the neck still holding at this point and down you can let go now adjust a lot of times it takes some work getting it just right pinching here pulling a little tighter and slide into place boom big boy unpop your color and rock and roll mmm yes your full Windsor is the knot to go to when you're looking to dress to impress you want to look sharp as a tack gentlemen this is the knot to go to it looks and works best with the spread collar its size fills up the space in between collar points the natural symmetry and shape of it complements everything making this not the go-to not when you're looking to make it happen yeah I don't know make whatever happen it just slipped out all right I don't know why I said it doesn't make any sense I know thank you for your concern gentlemen when it comes to the full Windsor half wins or even the Nikki knot it's all about the dimple but perfecting the perfect dimple takes time it takes execution it takes finesse but I'm going to teach you how to cheat and you're just about to finish up tying your tie you take it up getting ready to come down your in a pool but stop what you do get it so that it's still a bit loose stick your index finger up grab the edges of that tie and pinch and what you're doing is creating a false dimple all right then you slowly pull alright and I want you to pinch the bottom of the tie knot nice and tight and what you have created is the perfect dimple push it up into place secure check it out perfect dimple every time and I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't address novelty knots like the Eldridge and Trinity make no mistake about it gentlemen these knots have pizzazz if knots were dance moves the Eldridge in Trinity they would be jazz hands and the dudes that wear these knots they're gonna tell you every time I wear the Eldridge there's Trinity out in public people are always coming up to me it's stopping me and being like oh my god that is such a crazy nut how did you do and I'm like yeah they're not they're pretty sweet they took me month to math they're not easy and what they fail to tell you or realize is that after the person leaves they're laughing at you for the rest of the day okay fine I'm laughing at you seriously dude what I think you're meant to you still are thinking that not it's pretty sweet all right I'll tell you what I will let this gentleman shirt speak to the stylishness of the knot you still don't believe me still gonna listen remember you're taking advice from a dude who has that shirt in his closet who has that Thai shirt combo in his repertoire of stylish options gentlemen take it for what it's worth listen to me don't listen to me it's cool I just wanted to teach you and show you three of my favorite knots the foreign hand the Nikki and Big Daddy Windsor thanks for watching I'll talk to you later
