hello my name is Anthony Keller and I'm that deacon on YouTube I'm speaking to you today from our church's undercroft we have meetings down here we've had in the past prayer stations this is a space that is pretty flexible and I hope we can do more stuff down here in the future this month I'm going to just share a little bit about what's going on with me and then I have our featured video at the end a couple weeks ago the Diocese of Los Angeles had their annual spring clergy conference we listened to an inspiring talk in two sessions from theologian Matthew Fox he was introducing a new book he's written about Thomas Merton but we also talked about ways to spread the faith and to look at liturgy in the 21st century especially from a visual point of view that really struck a chord with me because I am doing a lot of work with video as it pertains to worship so I really enjoyed the talk we also stayed at the Mission Inn in Riverside I never had a chance to visit this lovely old turn-of-the-century hotel and I got some fabulous pictures here's a few of them so here at the end of May we have programs that come to a close and take a break for summer but it doesn't mean we're just sitting around doing nothing this Saturday I'm taking a group of parishioners to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library about 45 minutes from this location where we'll see an exhibit entitled treasures from the Vatican the one thing I'm really looking forward to see is a painting by Michelangelo there are a few of them out there and I don't believe I've ever seen one in person so that'll be my treasure this Saturday when we take a group to see this exhibit our featured segment this month is a request a request from Deacon I believe it was Deacon murine Hagen from the Association for Episcopal deacons has asked that I do a video about how to veil a chalice this is something that is normally done by an altar guild person so what I did was asked our former director of the altar guild and our preschool director Cheri McSweeney to demonstrate how to veil a chalice so we'll be getting on to that in a second but before I show the video I just want to say every Church has its own traditions so maybe the way that we veil a chalice here is different than yours so if you have a different way that you do things or would like to offer insight on something that wasn't covered be sure to leave some message downstairs here in the comment box below and you could share it with other people who view these videos so without further ado here is an instruction video about how to veil a chalice take it away Cheri so we're here to see how to set up the altar for communion we start with the linen that's called a corporal and it's folded inside out like a book we place it on the altar opening it up if there's any embroidery the embroidery side is laid out towards the priest next we place the chalice on top of the chalice comes the next linen which is called a purification we pinch the sides to help the pure for care lay straight on the chalice after the purification comes the pattern or the plate with the priests house next comes the pall placed on top of the pattern the next step is to take the veil with the backside folded over so that the back side is open to the priest we drape that on the pole straightening it and then you can see that the back side is open to the priest next comes the verse the verse is like a book placed on top of the veil inside the verse is an extra purification it's needed and that's how we set up for communion well that's all I have for you this month I hope your May is going wonderful I hope you're looking forward to June and a little bit of summer I'll be continuing to make my videos so I'll see you god bless my my friend
