hello my name is Nicholas Stodden I'm with Monrovia today we're going to talk about how to plant a pomegranate tree you're probably saying well it doesn't look like much to me right now but because we are in early winter so pomegranates of the situation this is the very very best time to do the planting if you plant in the fall or early winter it still allows the plant to develop a really good root system for fruiting next year this particular pomegranate is called angel red an angel red is just a fantastic plant probably ripens about three weeks in front of a lot of other pomegranates but we're talking about planting dig the hole about two and a half times the size of the root ball you see here the root ball what we're going to do is we're going to remove her very gently from the container always check you've got a nice root system lots of healthy roots in there place her in the ground never plant your plant below the actual soil line good mulch okay put that mulch in the hole and as you put the mulch in the hole I'm a real big believer in slow release fertilizer a little bit of slow release fertilizer in there spread the mulch around the plant a little more fertilizer you can hear a going all yum-yum-yum love that fertilizer she'll thank you for that when she starts growing in the early spring now you'll notice here I'm leaving a little bit of an indentation we're going to create a trough and that's where we're going to have a nice deep watering afterwards a little bit more fertilizer and it's as easy as that this is Nicholas Stabbin with Monrovia on how to plant a pomegranate tree in your garden you
