we're from buddies garden channel thanks for coming to watch another river of a show today we're gonna be talking about what a cress yes and how simple it is to grow I want to teach you how I've been growing watercress I've been going for a little while off and on now about last six months and I just nip on it eating salads and things like that it's great for stir fries you can make watercress soup chock-a-block full of vitamin C is related to nasturtiums all those presses the land crest the watercress mr. sheean they're all full of eyes and see and they're really good for you and easy to grow in this video I'm going to show you how what will we need to start growing our watercress at home now we're going to be going in containers so obviously you're going to need a small container that will hold the composter you'll need some compost you can use a good quality potting mix as well but I'd mix a bit of compost in move it if you do have it now you also need a container to put them in so something will fill up about halfway up the pot with water and obviously you're going to need some plants you may also want to consider using a mild weak fertilizer such as a sea weed or a mix of sea weed where you can get a mixture it's 50/50 of half fish emulsion and half seaweed and just put a week solution into it every now and again you may also want to use a pump if you want to keep the water aerated and you're doing it inside or you've got electricity available close to you you can use just a little air stone such as a little fish pump and to keep the oxygen going and that will help the plants grow much faster you don't have to have those if you're changing the water more regularly that will keep it clean and oxygenated the water cress don't really like dirty water so if the water's getting fouled up the plants aren't going to be as healthy now I've seen in other video clips where they talked about using mineral water yes you can use that but I just use basic rainwater from our rainwater tank and I find that that works just perfect now if you don't have an option for rain water you can you got the chlorinated tap water town water just put it into a bucket and let it sit for about 24 hours and that the water dissipate out of that now if you want to see a video on that go into my Marty's garden channel and see how to remove chlorine from the water or there's lots of other videos there as well but it's very simple you just pour it in let it sit and it will be gone within a day and then you can use it in your app and your water cress also what you will need as I was talking about some plants and it's really quite simple so listen to the rest of this video to find out more about the plants and how you can get some of your own softer really cool tip for you guys now when growing Michael obviously just gonna say Michael dress like riot member when he growing up I crest you can pick it up from the supermarket and you can buy at local markets and things like that a lot of times when you buy it to eat in to consume it'll have a little root on it so you don't have to strike it from see one way that I've actually going to be doing it this week because I bought some watercress microgreens yes I actually cheated a little bit and didn't buy the seed I saw this you're not in the shopping place in her wall worse for a dollar 49 it was on half price and there's literally little plants in there now it is a hydroponic medium but doesn't really matter it's got a little rock wall little tray down there what I'm going to do is I'm just going to pull out little pieces and put a few into the pots into the little pots that I've got with some compost and some water and that is going to start trying to start growing out that I've done that with other plants and it's a great little tip to receive them in the shops and you see the micro is growing on special grab them and plant them out and then you can harvest on them twice as much so it's a really cool idea to get these going now within I can start eating these now win a couple of months you know officially hundreds of plants for dollfie that's a bargain alright watercress likes a wide variety of conditions it can handle quite hot - very cool and if you're going to be growing it indoors in the very cool seasons then you might want to put it near some bright light in a window in the summer put it outside in some like shaded area we just get some filtered light and it'll grow just fine it just doesn't like extreme heat now to propagate it it does produce like little suckers that come out of the end little shoots and you can cut them off when they've got roots on them or just cut them off and stick them in some water and they will shoot grids and you know you can just keep collecting plants off your one main parent plant now once the parent plant goes to seed it flowers up goes to see it's pretty much not useful anymore it starts going bitter but you'll have all those nice new little plants coming on and you know you can collect them and you basically will never have to buy plants ever again if you do use and use that method so there you have it my friends simple easy method of how to grow watercress at home in containers now it really is a simple way to grow and you don't want to overdo it or over simplify it it's a very nice plant and it grows nearly all year round depending on your climate they can handle you know the cooler temperatures and the heat as well to just you know each place is a little bit different so just do your tests get your tests right and enjoy your garden now if you haven't subscribed to Marty's garden already the place where we teach you how to got lots of fresh food fast in urban places and small spaces and even some filing tips along the way for the backyard subscribe now guys and gals is going to be a lot to find more cool videos come on the way and I've got something really exciting I've been waiting to tell you right sit in Marty's garden it's going to the Philippines yes I've even got something even more exciting to show you when I'm there I'm going to let you know a little bit more about my personal life and my life regarding my daughter and that's filling you guys in more but what's going on behind the scenes buddy's garden would you like that alright and that's going to teach you how to grow lots of food yeah that's the whole clan so remember if you haven't subscribed make sure you subscribe now before you go we've got shows coming Tuesday and for the for the minds garden shot and then Carnes back out you can tips every Saturday and there's more exciting shows coming on the way which I'm developing for you guys I'm just getting a little bit secret at the moment it's gonna be lots of fun and while still a have a great day happy gardening we'll see you at the next video real soon bye for now you
