Please explain how to flare copper pipe fittings - eccentric flare tool

hey my name is Ben thanks for stopping by today I'm working on doing a couple flare fittings and I want to just show you how to go about doing that this is a very traditional flaring method so first thing you want to do is take your flare nut and slide it down onto your copper pipe this is one of the most common things to forget now secondly you'll see on the end of this pipe here if I can get a good look at it that there's basically a little bit of a burr on the inside that's leftover from when you cut this with a pipe cutter so what we do is we take our needle nose plier or something that's kind of tapered and you push that into the end of the copper tube and just kind of spread that out a little bit just kind of gets that burst so that it's not pointed inwards because that can cause some problem you don't want to go really hard just enough so that it it spreads that inner burr out you can also use a deburring tool to do this but I found the needlenose to be quite effective so got that cleaned up there so now we're gonna grab our flaring tool now this here is an eccentric eccentric Steven Guetta this flaring tool here like I was saying is an eccentric eccentric flaring tool which it basically rotates around if you can see that very good let me see lazy men here all right so come on focus it's not one focus sorry there we go so if this actually like pivots around in a circle as it tightens instead of just tightening straight down and that makes the flare much nicer and less likely to have any imperfections it really does a good job of smoothing it out so I will link in the description to where you can get this exact one they're actually relatively inexpensive on Amazon so Kylie would recommend this style it just does a great job so go ahead and get our base part of this ready so this here just opens up on one end you pull it like this and then you are going to go ahead and select the size you're using in this case we're using 3/8 of an inch and then you want to just stub it high enough out that it has enough to flare out to the edges of this cone here and you kind of just have to estimate this and you'll get the hang of it as you do a couple so you can practice on a few if you've never done this before but just get that I guess it looks like it sticks up about maybe an eighth of an inch from the top flush surface here and we will kind of squeeze it on there it's got some grip to it all right now aside this on here if you're worried what the racket is that would be maple maple see hi she's helping me today and here on the side of this flaring tool there you can see that there's little holes here along the edges or there's a little set points where this tightens on to in order to Center it over the hole that you or the size flare that you're doing so we will get that lined up there and tighten that handle down and when you tighten this handle down it also helps push the flaring tool together so that it's nice and tight around that pipe there we have it that's nice and snug a little bit more maybe okay now we're ready to go ahead and start flaring this I'll see if I can get a better view all right so this is the best view I can get you guys so you can see that this will kind of move around as I tighten it here we go try to keep it as steady as I can get a little bit brighter here for ya there you go and once you get it all the way down it will automatically stop when it gets down to the correct setting so I'll show you the top of the handle here there's a little bump thing you see it snap in here there but then it clicks right back because it's it's all the way up so now once we go back it hooks in we can release it and throw that all the way off and then you can take in loosen this all right we're ready slide this off right now and we can get a look at our flare so there's the top of our flare that's looking pretty good and we just separate this a little bit to take it off and now we'll find out if the flare was successful obviously when we check for leaks but first of all if you uh had stub your copper up too high this would be too wide or on the outside edges and this wouldn't slide up in this case it looks about perfect so we are good to go and you wouldn't want too much smaller than that otherwise you would end up with not enough fuss of a of an edge to flare your fitting onto so that's pretty much been it then you take your flare adapter here this is adapting to half-inch black iron size or pipe size and tighten that down there you don't need any thread sealant you can add some if you feel like it but you don't need it and check for leaks and make sure you're good to go so if this video helped you out please take a second and hit that thumbs up and yeah I feel free to subscribe to the channel for more helpful videos like this one what do you have there maple are you helping me thanks for your help and this is my other helper here too so anyway yeah thanks again and we'll talk to you in the next video
