hi it's Heather with mommy Potamus calm today I'm going to show you how to make lotion with an immersion blender now this is hands-down the easiest lotion recipe you will ever make and it has a side benefit too and that's that when you use an immersion blender at to make lotion you can blend it in really small batches now if you're like me and you typically use either no preservatives or and naturally desert derived preservative ad that doesn't last as long as the kind that you find on the shelves in a store then this is perfect because what it means is that you can use all of your lotion before it goes back now this is not a recipe video I'm actually going to be sharing this video in several different blog posts but have different lotion recipes this is a process video because the process is the same so I'm just going to show you how we're going to do it we're going to start with of course our equipment and our ingredients we'll be using an immersion blender and then the ingredients typically say just about the same different ratios and slightly different and maybe oils and stuff like that you'll need oil you'll need an emulsifier and we're using beeswax and the emulsifier is what blends the oil with the water which is your third ingredient and because otherwise you just come out of salad dressing you know the oil and water they don't mix so water is your next ingredient and then I'm going to be adding in a little shea butter for extra moisturizing and now as far as equipment like I said we already mentioned the immersion blender you'll also need a double boiler and if you don't have one that's fine you can just use a stainless steel pot set inside a pot of boiling water and then you're going to need a second pot to boil the water that you're going to be using as an ingredient so let's head over to the stove and I'll show you how to get started on the Left you'll see a pot of water that's just about to boil that is the water that I'm going to be using as an ingredient in this recipe now I typically boil more than I'm going to need because it evaporates as it heats up and I want to end up with the exact measurement so what I do is just boil about double of whatever it is that I'm going to need so that I am sure I have enough and then I measure it after it's been boiled and set aside and the reason you heat the water is that you want the water and the emulsifier in oil that you're going to be using your recipe to be roughly the same temperature so that they'll blend and emulsify together so as soon as that pot on the Left comes to a boil I'm going to turn it off turn the heat off and pull it off the stove and then I'm going to on the right I'm going to go ahead and add my butter and my beeswax my moles afire so that they can begin to melt and I'm going to wait to add the oil because oils tend to be a little bit more fragile and I like to add them last so that they're not sitting in that double boiler kind of cooking so I'm going to go ahead and add my beeswax and I'm going to add the shea butter that I'm using in this recipe I'm going to go ahead and let that start to melt as you can see the pot on the left is boiling so I'm going to turn off the burner and we'll set it here on the back now another benefit of boiling the water is that you're killing any bacteria that might be in there which you obviously don't want growing in your lotion so it's just one more way to sterilize the water you'll also definitely want to use a very clean jar to store the lotion in and it looks here like the butters and the butter and the beeswax have melted so I'm going to go ahead and add in my oil and let that warm up just a bit now the oil has fully melted so I am going to go ahead and take this off the heat as well and what I'm going to do here is I'm going to allow the wheel and almost the fire to stay in the double boiler so that it stays warm and I'm going to let the water cool just a little bit more because you can see that it's steaming and it's Amal let it cool a little bit more so that they're kind of more in the same temperature range we're thinking like hot tea but not so hot that you wouldn't be able to put your pinky in and test it okay so my water and my oil and beeswax mixture have cooled just a little bit so I can put my pinky in and it's hot but not so hot that it's burning me so what I'm going to do is add my oil to this jar and then I'm going to add my water and of course like I mentioned earlier I boiled more than I needed so that I could just measure in what I need without worrying that too much is evaporated off and now you can see that it looks like salad dressing not so appetizing so now we're going to take this and we're going to make it into this so what you do is you're going to take your immersion blender put it in the bottom and you're going to turn it on and let it just sit there on the bottom for a minute and you'll see that it starts to turn cloudy and as it starts to get really really cloudy you're going to let it sit and then you slowly pull the immersion blender up and you'll and you'll be done so maybe we should zoom in so everyone can see now as you can see this is pretty runny but don't worry it'll thicken up as it cools in fact this is a lotion that I made with the same recipe earlier today just use a slightly different base oil and it's very thick very luxurious and just wonderful all-around moisturizer you thank you so much for watching if you have any suggestions for future topics please leave them in the comments below hi it's Heather with mommy Padma stock I can't say my own name hi it's Heather with mommy pardon miss calm okay well they believe it I sounded weird all right again in an immersion and then a little Aloha
