Please explain how to make plantain soap tutorial - recipe included

hello I'm Sarah Jane's from soap school and welcome to this week's pantry soap making session in today's soap is going to be plantain soap so let's have a quick look at the recipe we're going to be using 250 grams of crisp and dry you could also use Trek's or if you're in North America something like Crisco we're also using a hundred and fifty grams of coconut oil 100 grams of olive oil 72 grams of sodium hydroxide and then we're using a hundred and 20 grams of water and 30 grams of pureed plantains and three grams of dried plantain this is just your regular plantains we've gone for fairly ripe ones it's gonna be a lot easier to work with them than the green unripe ones because they're very fibrous but plantains now are available in many of your local stores and in your supermarkets and they're just an amazing product to use I don't think enough people know how they can be utilized but these are used in the Caribbean and in Africa all of the time as a natural skincare product and beauty agent so why not use it in our soap too now what we've done is we've taken the plantain we've chopped it up a little bit and then we've literally just stick blended it so literally just pulp it so that's all we've done we've literally just pulsed it up and down to get this kind of consistency and let me just talk about the second type of plantain that we're using today now this is actually the dried skin of the plantain so we've literally just taken the skin we've dried it in the oven at about 120 degrees until it's gone nice and dry and crispy literally you can snap it when it gets to this stage you can actually pop it into a pestle and mortar if you have one or we cheated and what we actually did was we used a coffee grinder so this is our coffee grinder and we've literally just ground down those plantain skins in the coffee grinder because although you could do it with a pestle and mortar most people have a life and one just behind their time doing something a little bit more exciting than bashing away at the dried skins save a little bit of time so here we have our warm oils and we're going to add in the pureed plantain that we produced so we're just going to add that into the warm oils okay and we need to give that a bit of a blitz before we start with the lye solution and really get this worked in with the oils it really doesn't take long but it does help to break down any of the bits that a little bit larger than we want we want this to be very very fine we do not want great big lumps of plantain in there now we can go ahead and we can add the lye solution any time that you are using the sodium hydroxide you must be wearing your protection so this is the time that you pop your gloves on in goes the lye solution give that a good mixing I don't know if you can see the color changing but it's going richer and more caramely in color that's those natural sugars in the fruit being changed you know give that a good old beating we are at race by one little bit thicker and then I'm gonna add in my ground dried plantain skins now because it's a dry powder it's probably going to clump so we're going to need two stick blend this in there we go so now all we need to do is to pour this you can see it's lovely and creamy and color and we're literally just gonna pour that into the mold can you see all that beautiful speckling and all of that has been achieved from putting the plantain skins in the plantain skins have lots of nutritional value just as much as the plantains themselves and then I'm just gonna finish with a little sprinkle on the top just down the middle give it a little dusting of the same plantain doesn't that look lovely I really hope that you enjoy making this one it's something that's a little bit different it's not something you're gonna see everywhere but I think that is beautiful if you like this one do give us a thumbs up and why not subscribe to our Channel we create beautiful soaps every week with you utilizing things that you have in your home your pantry and your fridge all that you can buy from your regular local stores so now our plantain soap is all ready for coming out of the mold and cutting look at that lovely Patni it's just a really lovely natural color now remember we use two different types of plantain we use the plant itself which we pureed and then you can see these darker speckles these were actually the ground up dried plantain skins I think they're absolutely lovely I hope you enjoy
