hi my name is Scott Watson with deaths New York studio for howdini calm this is Kyla my beautiful model and today I'm going to show you how to create these beautiful Taylor Swift curls that I did on Kyla so what you need to create the look is some mousse 2 barrel curling irons and some hair clips you're gonna flip your hair over you're gonna work through the ends that you know over to see it's starting to lift up a little bit right separate the hair now Kyla has long beautiful luxurious hair very thick so you want to try to put a much product in it as possible you want to make sure that you when you're blow-drying you're lifting it up at the root but because Tyler's hair is so long and beautiful and thick we're starting from the back just so it the heat can have time to cool down and set in the hair if you see steam come out of your hair it's fine what it is it's the moisture that's trapped inside your hair and the heat from the blow-dryer is sort of heating it up so it's creating steam the more you pull the better the tension is what makes the hair go straight you also want to make sure your hair is nice and clean only because it holds the curl better and it also makes the hair look nice and polished and then when you get to the front part you kind of want to make two sections splitting it in the middle and you're taking this and you're bringing it that you also want to make sure you get the little baby hairs in the front okay you want to make sure that you blow them back as you're blowing them back they get lost underneath the other hair so it doesn't show at all so now we're done with the blow drying so what we're gonna do is we're gonna section off the hair in sections we're gonna start with the back so we can create the curl you're gonna spray the hairspray what I'm using is Pantene ice shine you want to use something in the realm of this you spray a little bit of hairspray you want to make sure you always comb the hairspray through so it doesn't look all clumpy and Maddie after you're done with the curling iron you take the one inch barrel you're wrapping it around the hair what you want to do is you want to start in the root area first wrap it you're gonna hold it for 20 seconds or 10 seconds it depends upon how thick or how long your hair is then you take it and you let it just pull and then you clip this up again it doesn't have to be perfect it's just so it will hold the curl so that it can cool down so basically I used to one inch barrel for a thicker wave and it's good to use a 3/4 or a different size barrow just to create some type of texture in the hair to make a look they sit like this a couple of different movements going on the 1 inch is more of a thick curl the 3/4 is more for a fine smaller curl what you're going to do is just wrap it around your finger to create the movement of the curl and then after you wrap it around your finger make sure your ends are tough down there and you just pin it alright so you're just gonna continue this process throughout the whole hair until you get to the front area if you can't get the back you want to try to maneuver it where you learn how to do it on your own and eventually in time it will get a lot easier what you can also do that will make your life a little bit easier when you're curling pull the tension forward so this way when you're wrapping the hair back you're giving more of a lift in the root area all right so we've done the hairs been cooling for about 5-10 minutes now we're gonna take out the pins and let the curls fall wherever you start putting the pins first is where you start taking them out but the idea of doing the clips is just sew the pearls have time to cool okay what you want to do now to make it much neater and create a more natural look is you're gonna flip the hair ever so lightly flip it okay and what you're gonna do is you're gonna take your own fingers and work your fingers through your route like this try not to bring it through all the way to the ends just work your route like that okay so I'm just working the route see just to separate it a little bit you're just going like this just to separate it that's all I want to do and then you're gonna flip the hair back so when it comes down it's more natural the idea is you want it to be smooth here and then bump out like that kyla has some bangs so what we're gonna do is we're gonna work with the bangs if you have bangs at home you could either pin them back or you can let them hang loose I'm gonna pin the bagans back a little bit so what you do is you pin it back try to get it back as far as you can now you don't want this clip showing so the trick is you take some of the hair from here and you bring it over what you can also do is if you feel you want a little bit of oomph in the root area you take the curling iron you take a little piece of the hair and Yuri curl it a little bit closer to the root see so you can have a sum of identified pieces tada we got the Taylor Swift inspired curls do you like your hair yeah you love it you're gonna go out tonight party honey yeah all right sounds good my name is Scott Wasserman at DEC's New York and this is howdini calm
