all right i'm making a tahitian hip hay or a polynesian hip hay hip belt whatever with molete and artificial tea leaf which is pretty hard to find but i got it in hawaii it's not so hard to find there this is what it looks like it's like tea leaf and so what you're going to need is any type of material this is an old bed sheet it works pretty good i'm doing one for my daughter i'm using a little pillow case because it doesn't need to be so big so anyways old material cut it into four strips it's pretty thin once you're getting it tight down here and pulling on it but it's about that wide so anyways four strips show down there the braid so you gotta start with the braid and you're gonna braid it down and then come up and show it and this is what it's gonna look like i want it nice and fluffy which i'm gonna fluff this out more when i'm done so i'm using four strips and it makes two rows all right so you're gonna start keep the four strips separate and start with these two you gotta kind of tighten it as you go let's start with the two on the left so i take my molete and my tea leaf in the middle fold it my two strips here hold them tight and take it up underneath like that i put the fold like this shiny side out the tea leaf shiny side out fold it over hold this tight and then fold in one side trying to keep it flat as you can it's easier with real tea leaves just so you know
