Please explain how to sew wool longies from an old sweater : felt, wool, & other fabric care

hi my name is christina govinda and this is how to sew wool longies from an old sweatshirt because we're repurposing old sweaters it's important to check the quality of the wool making sure it's soft and attractive and that the sleeves are long enough to be able to make longies out of them for this we'll be using an old wool sweatshirt straight pins elastic a safety pen scissors and a sewing machine the first step is to lay your sweater flat and to cut off the sleeves i'm going to follow the hemline next i'm going to lay my sleeves out side by side and cut straight across laying your sleeves parallel we're going to cut about six to eight inches down depending on the size of your child this is going to create the seams that we can stitch together now we're going to turn them inside out and pin them together next using your sewing machine set on a loose zigzag stitch we're going to stitch the two sleeves together next we're going to create a hem at the top of the pants that we're going to thread elastic through so we're going to fold it down and the size of the hem is completely depending on the thickness of your wool and also the width of your elastic i'm using very thin elastic so i need somewhere between a half an inch and an inch now we'll pin it using our zigzag stitch we're going to sew all the way around leaving a hole at the end of the waist to thread our elastic now we're going to take our safety pin hook it onto the elastic clasp it i'm going to put it through the hole and thread it through the waist i'm just pinching the fabric and pushing the safety pin through now i'm going to pull my elastic to the desired tightness and pin it together i'm going to pull it kind of loose so that i can use my sewing machine and stitch the two pieces of elastic together now that your elastic is stitched together clip the ends off pull it into the waistband and we're going to stitch down the hole once you're finished stitching your waistband clip off any extra threads turn the pants right side out and you're all done being able to make your own wool longies can save you a ton of money and is a fun way to reuse old sweaters thanks for watching
