Please explain how to replace the valve cover gasket on a 2009 toyota corolla

you hi and welcome to another video by Jim McHarg I today we have a 2009 Toyota Corolla with a 1.8 liter engine and this movie to be changing the valve cover gasket this comes to me B to be the owner of the vehicle actually changed their own spark plugs and when they took the spark plugs out of the engine they said to the coil down in by the spark plug tubes so I'm going to bring you in there I'm going to show you how to pull the cover off and I'm going to show you why it's leaking oil into the spark plug area itself it's actually very common not just on this Kalb a lot of cause so if you're pulling your plugs out of a valve cover and there's oil in there your valve cover gasket and the spark plug tube seals need to be replaced so I'll bring you up there I'll show you the tools we're going to use and then believing it's thawed you will get this job out start to finish it should take you maybe tops and hours all right listen up there everyone let's get started okay this example of what you're going to be needing to actually do the job will give me some lights of course but whether the scraper to scrape the old gasket off we're going to use a quarter inch set because it's really very small the ball slope is going to be removing of course we have a new gasket set which I will show you in a minute and that's my set for a quarter inch all right so this is what we're going to do first we're going to come in here this cover actually comes right off it just pulls right off and everything is over the bottom so let's get set up the start the first thing you do just take this car you grab it just pull it that comes right off next thing we're going to do is unplug the coils right here and it's the way you do that is you press in in this little tab right here all else equal plugs on as a shift site this climate actually from the cover will put that back in there [Applause] okay well for your electrical connectors on we're going to remove these coils and it's just a little 10 millimeter screw in the top two holes in the place I [Applause] always like to put the coils back in the same location that they came out of you save the coils lemo Pia so we'll be back make sure you clips leaking on this okay that's the actual spark plugs themselves down inside here and that leak is actually coming from right in here that little seal right there that seal goes bad leaks oil and oil lines up down inside this ball club tubes self so all right let's continue and we just remove all the electrical connectors like I said one will be able to quarter-inch so we we don't have to worry about snapping anything off pretty much [Applause] okay once you have one of the bolts out you just come underneath here at a very small pry bar I'm just probably up on it just like this now if you're trying to take this one but it doesn't come off don't force it you know want to crack it is only one of them just make sure you have all of your bolts out before you go any further with it alright once you have all the cover least and you can just run you could pull right off watch out any of this crack don't pull down inside the engine because you don't want that in there and these are the seals right in here and we're going to be changing so all right let's say I always take this over to the bench clean it up and put the new gasket back in and I'm going to continue [Applause] varcek and we'll do all that again okay this is everything that the cake complement it comes with a new gasket which we're not going to confuse always so you want to get rid of it new gasket these are the new seals this ball club tubes which will go right in here [Applause] [Applause] okay so the seals can only go in one way you see how they came out like this that's how they're going to go back in so make sure you don't mix up your seals and it will put the new link back in [Applause] we didn't Eric loves women come back okay once you get to know these seals were a pain in the rear end put in I had to use a seal driver to put them back in here they were actually extremely tight going in so just be careful you don't damage it putting it back in and they'll going to take our gasket will lay our gasket back in the way it fits in to the group here most of the time I'm gasket stays in by itself but if it keeps on popping out for you you can use some tasca to esa' to hold it in place I think we'll be outside without it all right let's let's get back on a caramel to put it back together we just in lay it in there nice and easy over to swallow to yourself motor in position and then puts it down to feel a slide that over the top [Applause] we're going to reinstall all of the bolts by hand make sure there will call up to three to tighten anything up there is torque specs on this I'm going to look it up I'm going to torque these down and then we'll come back and continue putting it back together okay now it would walk down you can actually start to reinstall everything that we previously took off and you can reconnect everything else that we previously took off we will clamp back down for wiring harness back up with the Rose reattach it you [Applause] now whether we reconnect a little via electrical connect with that be previously filter off this one if you remember to the back way back this snaps on will reattach our force the list of animals snaps you know it's awesome place [Applause] the real punch [Applause] last thing they have to do to disconnect Oh vacuum home Seattle power booster back down now before you do anything look it over and make sure that everything is back on where we're at email all of the harness has got me plug back in so don't make any mistakes and have anything damaged everything's plugged back in alright now we got y'all correctly we should be able to fire this up and it should be fine so we change my gloves and we'll fire this up alright asking over to do we're going to reinstall our power back on and the way I go going to develop it and you push it down but I'm not going to do that yeah I'm going to warm up a little bit okay so that's it we're all set just make sure all of your connectors are connected back in where they belong the harness connectors to hold the harness so he goes would rub against anything make sure you slide your clinch back down onto the hoses that you had previously remove them and put back in make sure everything snaps back together and last but not least I wanted to say something about these B seals without the right driver it is going to be a little bit difficult to do here at the shop I have a cooler fits over the top of it you can drive it in I'll see you can get it flush that the cover is supposed to be if you don't have that you may be able to find the socket or whatever to fit over the top of it but it's a cheap investment to get a co-driver kit and drive it in with the you know with the correct with the correct tool so you don't have any damage all right that's going to be the biggest part of the whole job when you're getting those seals back in there and spark plug the tube seals but that's it all right so anybody who wants to talk to me about anything you want to send me an email I'll be more than happy to talk to anybody about anything as always thanks for watching see you on the next one
