Please explain how to draw a christmas fireplace hearth with stockings - step by step lesson for beginners

today on doodle draw art we're going to draw a christmas fireplace we're going to use a pencil to get started we're just going to draw a square shape in the middle where the fire is going to go this is the inside of the fireplace and then we're going to draw a line that extends beyond on both sides and goes diagonally away just a little distance here i'm sorry for the focus it's going to be a little bit better once i'm done working at the bottom here so connect up those two ends and then make short lines that go down and then connect those as well and that's just it okay so now we're going to draw around the firebox a bigger rectangle this is the brick section and it should meet up with your diagonal lines now i'm going to draw the extended wooden mantelpiece and i think my mantel should have a bevel across the top or crown molding type design and then i'm going to put candles up here two and one and two you can decorate your hearth any way you like and i'm going to put a stocking here and another one here and so now inside the fireplace there's going to be a log and a fire so these are the hooks that hold the log inside the fireplace and then we'll just draw a swooping shape that goes up not that high the fire should stay inside the fireplace so it's like an upside down heart or a pointy a pointy egg shape that's better that gives us a guideline for making the flickering flames that are inside the fire and this is the outside edge of my fire and then i'm going to go back and do another row of flames which are sort of the same as the ones i just did only smaller but the flickers and the points are matching up and then one last little fire motif on the inside now i'll add the bumps on my burning log good so now let's move up and work on the stockings it's just an l shape that curves around with the brim across the top and a hook to hang from the mantle same on the other side i've hung my stockings off to the side so they're not a fire hazard i hope you do the same thing you could write names on these if you like and now i'm going to show where the bricks are just going across here some very gentle lines they're not going to be very bold just to give an idea that it's a brickwork fireplace and then some vertical lines here again to mark off the bricks okay so now i'm going to draw in the details up on the mantel i'm going to put in these candles and since we have a fire burning in the fireplace we're probably got the candles lit as well for the flame it's just a little line sticking up and then a teardrop shape above it and it doesn't really matter if your teardrop is centered on your wick line because the flame is flickering now i'm going to put a bow which is a rectangle with two wedges that stick out and i'll do a little bit more wedge on the inside and then the dangly part that hangs down and now i'm going to decorate my mantelpiece with some holly some green boughs of holly i'm just making w's over and over and then upside down w's coming from the points of all of these leaves of holly and the other way ocean waves or w's going that way and then m's underneath i guess i'll put one more here on the end okay so it's time to use black marker to go over my final lines and i'm using a fine point for some of these details like the edges of the fire and the lines between the bricks because these are not bold details of my piece they're just indications and also the same for the flame of the candle and for everything else i'm going to use my regular tip of marker it's a little bit darker i'm just doing this in time lapse i'm adding a few circles as i go here i think i'll have some holy berries along with my other mantle decorations i'd love it if you would comment on my video and click like if you like it if you have any suggestions or requests be sure to let me know here in the comments section all right so it's looking pretty good now i can erase my pencil marks you'll notice that in the brick section i did not trace the full lines i just i just indicated where the brick lines would be now i can check and see if everything is is there that i need to be there and i do notice that i've left off a line that goes right across here would be nice to see some of that line in the bricks but again i didn't draw the whole thing solid i just made dashed lines so you could color this or use marker with crayon marker whichever but i'm going to use watercolor paints this is just a children's watercolor paint set that i got at a local craft store and now i'm going to begin by painting the top section of my piece it's better to start at the top so you're not working over wet paint at the bottom with your hand pressing down and again i'm going to do this in time lapse i'm using a combination of diluted paint and water sometimes so right here i'm using full on red and then a darker red and then for this part i'm using diluted red and going back over with a little bit more color on the edges so here's the brown mantle i'm putting brown everywhere and then going in with water just to fill in all of the edges and brown and now gray for the bricks grayish brown same thing paint and water mixing together blending i'm going to put some brown inside the hearth and leave it leave it clear near the fire for now because i'll go back in and blend with water after a bit of gray around the edges to show that it's dark inside and then orange and yellow for my flames this really brings it out adds nice detail to the middle and here i'm just working with water just blending in all of my background colors i do want to do a little bit of black but i was waiting until i was done with my lighter colors just to keep my brush from being too contaminated with black but that's it i hope you've enjoyed watching me draw and paint this christmas fireplace if you've drawn one too i'd love to see your work you could post it up on instagram or or twitter and tag me i would love it if you would subscribe here to my youtube channel and hopefully you'll come back for more thanks for watching
