so today I want to do what is one of my most requested videos which is how do I keep my white clothes clean and how do I do laundry in general so I just want to share with you some of my tips of course I have my own lifestyle so I wanted to ask you guys for your tips too so over on Instagram some of you guys gave me some really awesome tips that I want to share because we all have different things different reasons that we wear our clothes in our life like some people have dogs or kids or specific jobs that might see more stains than others but for me I have no kids but I do have a white fluffy cat that likes to get his white fluff on anything so I try to wear only like light-colored clothes and then otherwise I'll wear fabrics that don't attract pet hair so like a silk for example is great so whenever I buy something that's a little bit more expensive especially anything white I like to pretreat it when it gets here and this even works with shoes for like any cotton canvas type of shoes so Scotchgard is what I do to pretreat anything like that it says you can also use it in in furniture I haven't done that but this has been really good I heard about this actually a long time ago in a Jennifer Lopez movie and it was just like a way to make sure that that your clothes stay white and clean and prevent a lot of things from happening like things will get dingy you will see stains sometimes but this is a great way to prevent that so when you do have something to spot clean then what I do is I use this blue Don dish soap I have tried the off-brand kinds and those work just fine just the same but only the blue stuff seems to work when it comes to using a dish soap what I do is if something has like a stain on it right away the sooner the better you can treat it is the best so I'll I'll run over to the sink and get some water on it and then I will use just like one little dot of this on it no matter how big the stain is the stuffs so concentrated that I only really need like a little dot so then I just rub the fabrics together and kind of create a foam just really try to work that in and then I just rinse it out and then I'll either like hang dry it or if I'm like really in a pinch I'll try to like dry it with my hairdryer or whatever but that's how I treat like almost any stain the only stains that are kind of tricky is something that has an oil in it like one time I dropped an avocado on my skirt and I never could get that one back I have tried things like chalk to kind of absorb oils stains and that I worked okay but I haven't really solved that one out if you guys have any tips for that let me know because I would love you for life if you could tell me that but the sooner you can treat a stain the better and that goes even when you're traveling when I was at Disney World is a perfect example because my self tanner in the heat of the day had really rubbed off on my beautiful white shirt the one that's actually pictured in my cover photo of my channel and that photo was actually taken after I got the stain on it so testament to how good this trick worked when I realized that that had happened and the stain was like all inside and even on the outside of my shirt I'm just covering it this beautiful white shirt with a stain I went over to the sink and I kind of did the same thing I did with the blue Dawn dish soap only instead of this I used one of those little facial bars of soap so I got it wet and I scrubbed that area really good just with as much soap as I could handle scrubbed it together rinsed it out and then I just hung it up to dry so that at least it would get a chance before I would wash it like a week later when I got home and then by the time that I got home washed it let it air dry the stain was completely gone so that was just a really cool way where I was able to save my shirt and I'm so thankful but yeah anytime you can get something treated right away is the best thing so I have some laundry tips too when it comes to white clothes I always wash all my fights together but I no longer wash my socks with that load so even though I have white socks they don't go in the whites load they go in with like the towels and stuff I learned that in college when everybody was doing their laundry in one location and we were all sharing tips and that was like one big thing that I was doing wrong and so ever since then my whites have been a lot cleaner because I haven't been throwing in like dingy socks with them so yeah that was really cool so when I do wash my whites my white load I will put bleach in but I put that in at the beginning without any detergent why do that is because I've read that detergent and bleach won't necessarily make your clothes extra white when they're working at the same time they'll just kind of combat each other and then your clothes won't be as white so some people like to put in their detergent toward the end of the wash instead of right away if you just have to have detergent in there but for me I just really think that I'm fine with just the bleached like bleach has its own cleaning properties in my mind so I just kind of wing it with that and no one's ever told me that I have stunk after a bleach wash I actually really like the scent that bleach has maybe that's just very weird I think it's just like it smells like a clean hotel room so another topic that I want to cover when it comes to laundry and stains is pit stains and those stains that you get around the collar of your your shirts like your dress shirt Zak had one that he had for years that was tailored to fit him properly and we really didn't want to just give it away or like have to buy a new one to replace it with and it was really almost past the point of giving it away it was like just you know we were like well we put in the money for this let's just see if we can save it so what we did is again we used blue don dish soap with a toothbrush you can also use like a scrub or grout brush or something that you have on hand that will scrub it in really good create a paste with water like a foam I guess but then you also can sprinkle in either borax which is really good for laundry or baking soda and just create a really good paste that you can leave on for like 30 minutes if not longer and then just rinse that out and wash it that got out all of the stains so that worked for the caller mostly I think we also worked on pit stains with that you could try that and it's just kind of something that you can do repeatedly as much as it needs so have a few things that I also want to include in this that aren't necessarily laundry tips but just things to remember so first of all you might want to try an ivory instead of a white sometimes I prefer that I think on certain skin tones especially you might feel like you look better in an ivory versus a starch white stark white color I actually really like ivory the problem is if you do want to bleach it or really get in there you're not going to be able to as much as you could with a white shirt I would also say that not everyone is going to inspect your clothes as closely as you are so maybe just take comfort in that fact that you know maybe those that those pants are that shirt that you invested a lot in that's white they might get a little dingy with age and that's okay really because they're not going to go up there with a color chart and try to see like if your pants are exactly white all the way across you know those terrible commercials for whitening your teeth where they're like doing the napkin test I actually think that's that would be like the rudest friend so don't go running around a people with napkins trying to see how white their clothes or teeth are so I just think that that's something to remember is that you know maybe the clothes that you really love have seen better days but it doesn't mean that they necessarily look dingy to other people and also I when I'm doing laundry I don't necessarily wash every single thing after every use there's a couple reasons for that one is I don't have a washer and dryer in my home so I actually have to make decisions I'm like what I'm going to wash when I have to carry it out of my home and stuff and the other reason is because washing can really damage your clothes after time and drying especially drying them and so you kind of have to think about that too like if you really love a piece or if it's very delicate it might do better with less washes you can always do the sniff test if that's really what you want to do see if any as we washed okay next I want to get to Instagram where you guys left your own advice and comments about how to take care of your clothes I just briefly scanned through these already and they were really good so I want to read them so the first one is all my white tees have those terrible armpit stains I think that natural deodorant is quite the culprit yeah so I use the natural deodorant - I don't know necessarily if I've noticed a big difference between natural deodorant and the more aluminum kind for pit stains but I'm sure there's definitely something to that especially if you're using an antiperspirant like the one that makes you not sweat that would definitely lead to that I'm sure okay next is soaking in OxiClean use the oxy clean stain remover gel and let it soak on the stained areas I let my white sit overnight and agitated OxiClean in hot water and I was amazed at how white everything came out I haven't used oxy clean in years but that's like a really good idea and I like the idea of like having it in hot water overnight I bet you that it's really good okay so this person actually responded to the original comment about deodorant and says that I wear Schmidt's deodorant and it stains all my whites - all my white tees so yeah I guess stay away from that one then line dry in the Sun it's how I kept my kids cloth diapers white it works on everything if it can keep baby poo stains at bay it can do anything also a pre wash paste of baking soda hydrogen peroxide and salt on a stain especially underarm stains does wonders though I don't get under I'm stains now that I don't use aluminum based antiperspirant okay so she actually uses more natural and so that's the opposite of what I thought I'm excited to hear your tips more than half of my tops are white and I can always use new ideas well thanks so yeah um that's really that was a lot of good tips for sure line drying in the Sun that's something that I have done with regular clothes like not whites and that was a mistake but I bet you a whites do really good because the Sun like bleaches the clothes also the pace seems like a really good idea I'll have to try that one my personal tip is not buying them haha I just can't keep anything looking remotely white personally okay so I would say then to go with more of an ivory okay it's a Dawn dish soap and a good old toothbrush scrubbing I guess I'm not the only one there I'm serious you guys like there's nothing like this stuff OxiClean soak another one for those I use old fashioned glycerine laundry bars for stains it works great I used to use a felt naphtha bar and I don't know if that one is the same type but I used to do that more like I would great my own laundry to laundry soap and like mix it in with borax and it would create like this giant ten gallon bucket of laundry soap that cost me like two dollars and you can definitely do that but it will make your clothes kind of more dingy or not dingy but it kind of fades the colors a little bit if you guys are interested in that I'll try to find the recipe I use for that if you're just really trying to save some cash because that that really helped me save a lot of money another one for only wash with other whites washing with any colors can make them look dull seconding OxiClean run in a sink of warm water and let his soak works well on my yellowed linen dress wash only with whites and line dry in the sunshine ok so there's really something to the line drying in the sunshine thing I just don't have a place to have dry things in the sunshine but that's more of a personal problem I think okay guys well I hope that this video is really helpful and if it was give this video a thumbs up and if you have any questions or your own advice I would love to hear them and it doesn't have to be just about whites it can be about any sort of like color washes or anything like that also be sure to subscribe so that you see my outfits of the week video that's brand new is coming out on Monday so I'll see you guys then bye
