Please explain how to make a highland cow cake

hey guys it's Billy some sweet sterling and this week I'm going to show you how to make a Highland cow cake the cake I'm starting with is a ten inch round cake my actual cake needs to be about nine inches tall so I just wanted to give myself a bit of leeway with that as a general rule with carving I like to sandwich my cakes together when they're filling before I carve because I thought it just makes things a bit easier than trying to be specific with adding filling to shaped cakes I had googled a Highland cow face and just found a good forward-facing one that I could use I printed this off and cut it out and then place that on top of my cake and use the large knife to take away the excess pieces okay I then softened off the edges of the cake so it wasn't a square cake we are not using a progress on this one we do not want a crisp sharp pilum cow the one a very soft rounded highland cow and then needed to add some shape to the face that obviously where the nose is gonna go i-16 be more pronounced so I made a template back over the cake and worked out where I needed to dig in a bit more who's most serrated knife to cut into the cake wherever it needed to go backwards a little bit so basically just above the nose area towards where the eyes would be once I was happy with the general shape of the cake I added a crumb coat of ganache and put it in freezer for 10 minutes to firm up and then brought it out and added another crumb coat so I had a really good foundation I colored up some icing using sugar Flair chestnut brown is a brilliant brown for this because highland cows have a really ready tinge to their first so that's what bits chestnut and now it's me to get and then route the icing out brush my ganache cake with water laid the icing over and then just lift it out any place now this is much easier to do on this kind of cake than is on a very sharp round cake there's just a lot more room here to get everything round so I lifted the piece out make sure everything was stuck on while some are still soft and use the sharper end of my Dresden tool to run lines in all over the icing to give more of a fur effect I then cut out just an O section from my template brought out some more chestnut brown icing and then cut out the rough shape the nose before shaking it more and smoothing it off my hands i indented a line using the sharp render the djursland tool or the mouth and two nostrils first of all I used their Brander into the dress and tool and then I went in with a ball tool to open them up a bit more and make them blue even again they is my template to stick this to the front of my cowl space where it would actually go for the years I rolled two balls of fondant and flatten them out a little bit I made them so they were kind of oval shape with a flat end at one side and then inserted coptor sticks into these and then use those to anchor the ears into the cake you can use water you can use royal icing whatever you want and that's my edge to stick it to the fondant but either way I would definitely use some cocktail sticks in there to support that way I then did the same thing and use a sharp end of my dress and tool to run fur lines into it at the ends of it is I supported the ear underneath my hand I'm really stroked The Dresden tool along it to tear the paste on the edge of the ear so it gave it more of a furry effect for the horns I used the skewer all the way through the top of the head so there was support straight through the centre and the horns were just sitting on the end I wrote two cones of white case my place was actually a crane but it really doesn't matter here we're going to brush some brown over anyway so it doesn't matter whether it's a white base of a cream base I wrote two balls roll them into cones and then make sure each end was brutal pointy wider end I cut that an angle to match with the cow's head and I have threaded each all over the skewer and stuck it against the cow's head using some water with a very classic Highland power fringe I rolled lots and lots of sausages of brown face and he's with white at one end and thinner at the other but it was just that process repeated and stuck onto the cake and I had these going right across the head to their ears some of them are coming down to the no some of them were a bit shorter than that I had been flipping out in different directions so had some movement so it wasn't just a straight block fringe which coincidentally is what my mother gave me through my entire years of primary school to finish the cake off and give us some extra depth I used an edible brown dust milk chocolate by rainbow dose which I will link to underneath and I went into every little indent that I have made on that cake and it sounds like it's going to take ages but it doesn't take that long because it's not specific it doesn't have to be perfect you can just brush really quickly over everything and the dust will settle in between those line anyway it just really helps to bring out that detail by creating more shadows and there I did the same for around the nose area and inside the nostrils and inside the mouth line then it added some white dust my brown dust make a slightly different shade and went into the center of the cows nose because that's a slightly different color I use bring royal icing to go around my cakes I thought it'd be easier than having to lay fondant around it and match it all up as you know royal icing is spreadable so we'll just merge into it itself that is how to make a Highland cupcake I really
