Please explain how to stop your desk gaming chair from sinking & lowering for cheap

Today I’m gonna teach
you to fix a chair using this. Well, actually, this part isn’t
necessary. But it sounds cool! [whirring] Let’s get Undone. [offbeat music] ♪Gerald Undone♪ ♪He’s crazy♪ Hello, legion!
I’m Gerald Undone, and I have a problem
with my chair. ...Today, we’re gonna fix it.
OK, so the first step is, we gotta take the legs
off the chair. OK, so all you gotta do
is get a wrench of some sort. I only have a small one,
but it goes to show you don’t need much. Bite onto
the pneumatic tube part of it, and then twist it,
and lift as you twist it. And the newer the chair,
the easier that’ll come off. If it’s an old chair,
you might have to put some WD-40 in here to kind
of get some that crud off. Now, at some point--
and ideally, when you’re still
sitting on the chair, maybe you can get a friend
or somebody to measure how much of a rise you want
the perfect position to be in. This is gonna be fixed now,
so you won’t be able to move up and down anymore, ‘cause
that’s the way I like it. I actually don’t use these
chairs to move up and down. I kinda just want them
to be in a single spot. Anyway, so you have to
measure how high you like to sit while
you’re in the chair. Now, I know already
that from this thing to where the chair sits
down is about 4 inches. That’s about how high
I want to sit up, is 4 inches. All right, so now
we’re gonna cut this PVC tube to be the length
that we need so it sits on there like that,
so when the chair sits on top, it won’t be able to
slide down anymore. So we’re gonna cut
a four-inch piece of this. [upbeat electronic music] ♪ Now, you don’t need to use
a big, crazy saw like this. You can just use a handsaw
or a hacksaw, or pretty much anything to cut through PVC,
it doesn’t take that much. But I don’t actually have
any small saws around, all I really got is this right now,
so that’s what we’re gonna use! Plus, it’s more fun and makes
a lot of noise. Let’s do it. ♪ And remember
safety first. [saw whirring] ♪ Now we put it on
the chair. ♪ [grunting] ♪ All right, then we just
lower it all the way down... and then... check if you got
it at a good height. ... I’m pretty happy
with this height, I think
it’s a good height! And it can’t go
down anymore, so even if I press
the lever down... Can’t get it
to go any lower! And you can still raise
it up a bit if you want. It just can’t
sink past the point that you don’t
want it to sink past. The reason why I use PVC pipe--
I’ve tried different things, I tried hose, I’ve tried tape,
I’ve tried clamps. They all seem to eventually
kind of slip and slide and break and crack
or whatever, where I figured the rigidity of the PVC pipe
and the fact that it’s about the same width as the base of
the cylinder anyway means that unless it’s gonna push the
metal right through the feet of the chair-- which,
my body weight didn’t do that before,
so why would it do it now?-- It should stop it from moving.
‘Cause, there’s nothing more annoying to me than
a sinking office chair. Now, yeah,
I can’t go lower than this now, but why would you want to? I
mean, do you really want to be that guy that’s, like,
wheeling around on the floor? [intense electronic music] ♪ So for this, hopefully,
it’ll stop me from sinking, and it’s been
a perpetual problem I’ve had with cheap canisters.
The chairs are built fine, they’re nice material,
but the canisters are always just the same old thing,
and you’re supposed to replace them after a while, but...
when the price of a canister is equal to the price
of a cheap office chair, sometimes it’s better just to
spend three bucks on PVC pipe and fix it yourself. That’s my
recommendation for that. I hope you found this video
useful. If you did, don’t forget to give it the old thumbs-up.
Let me know in the comments whether or not you thought this
was useful, or if there’s any other sort of household
projects you want me to take a look at, I’ll keep uploading
these kinds of things as I go about fixing them. And if you’re
new to the channel, make sure you hit “subscribe” and ring
that bell so you can join the Undone Legion and get
notified of future content. Alright... I’m done. ♪ ♪ ♪
