Please explain how to remove car emblems without scratching the paint

hey guys this amount was bleeping Jeep today I want to show you how to debug your vehicle now that means removing the emblems the stripes or the stickers without harming the paint underneath now if you like Automotive how-to videos make sure to subscribe then let's get started not to do this properly without harming the paint you'll need a few tools and here they are you'll need a heat gun some kind of cleaner like Windex and a fishing line now there's two different ways to remove the adhesive and I'll show you the pros and cons of each in a second one of those is to use adhesive remover I like to recommend this 3m specialty adhesive remover part number three eight nine eight seven the other way is to use a stripe off wheel and that part number is zero three six one two and if you use the stripe off remover you'll also have to have a drill now either one of these on the end are very important to make this work properly and I'll leave links to all these in the description box below the first step is just to clean up the area we don't want to scratch it just because of dirt or debris the next step is going to be warming it up with a heat gun now we're not actually warming the emblem now you can see this is a magnet this emblem is plastic so we don't want to melt it but we want to get the adhesive on the back warm enough that it will let go to do that I'll just use the heat gun swirl it around make sure you don't keep it in one place for too long [Applause] once things get nice and toasty you'll see that the adhesive starts to soften up now you take your fishing line if you don't have fishing line you can use something like dental floss we're gonna put it on the back of that adhesive and just work it through like so sawing through that adhesive now that was the easy part the hard part is getting all of this stick them off now which method are we going to choose well the stripe off wheel is more for stripes and thin stuff and you can see we've got a lot of thickness and gooey stuff here but I'm gonna use both I'll show you each the adhesive remover is probably gonna work better in this case though let's take this and we'll take it off and do one of each I'll make sure you're in a well-ventilated area and make sure that if you're putting this on your car that this remover is not going to drip down and get in somewhere where you can't clean it off because you don't want this sitting on the surface too long it's not going to remove the paint as long as you clean it up afterwards you probably want to use soapy water and something like that now once you've let that sit a few minutes you can see already it's starting to turn to mush so we're just going to try and scrape that off get as much of it off as possible and then we'll reapply until it's all gone to help with the process you can use a soft plastic scraper if you have one but never use anything hard like metal all right so there you can see that's one way to do it and it takes a lot of patience that way patience is something I do not have a lot of so let me show you the other method the main trick to removing this stuff is getting it off first to begin with so if you can get most of it off with the fishing line make sure you try to do that otherwise try to pick it off with your fingernails that way there's not so much that the remover has to remove all right let's give the stripe off wheel ago we're going to put your drill on low speed now we're just going to go perpendicular like this now you can see why I like the erase are much better so much quicker so much faster so much easier now the negative to the eraser is it leaves a lot of that residue behind as you could see this is like basically like a pencil eraser and it leaves behind those little pieces so if you're doing a large area you can imagine that those little pieces would get everywhere so what you can do is tape off the area then most of the pieces will land on the tape and you can just go back and pick it up with the tape when you're finished that's my little trick of the day once you're done come back and clean up your mess now the emblem is completely gone paint is still in perfect condition there you go now let me show you where the stripe off tool is really worth its weight in gold look at the stripe on this truck I don't want to remove that stripe but this is the same material right here check that out the paint is still in perfect condition under there now what if you have an old sticker maybe a bumper sticker or a vinyl sticker that you don't want anymore stripe off wheel is perfect for that [Applause] so I think you could tell which one was my favorite but it's good to have both because you might need one over the other someday like I said I'll leave links to these in the description box below so check that out if you're in need I appreciate you guys watching hit the thumbs up if you enjoyed this video please consider subscribing if you like automotive how-to videos thanks for watching guys we'll see you next time I wonder if you can erase yourself with one of these things where to go
